Subaru Impreza WRX STI Spec C Type RA

Must be in running for the longest car make and model going.
Purchased this on the 27th. Drove it home from Scotland. A nice 300 mile trip to get acquainted with it.
First impressions were good. It’s not a motorway cruiser but wasn’t horrible. I’d say its better than the now sold fn2 civic type r I owned previously.
Fuel tank is small but averaged 27mpg which gave me a range of 300 miles. Probably last time it will see high twenty mpg.
It’s in spectacular condition given its 20 years old and been in the uk since 2016.
Only mods are a Full miltek turbo back exhaust with sport cat and a remap by Andy Forrest for 99octane.
Car pulls like a train from 3.5k all the way to the red line of 8k. Wow these cars are quick. I have a dual motor tesla for daily use and this is easily quicker when on boost and the tesla is no slouch.
It’s running some yokohama neova tyres which are limpet like. I was always a Michelin ps4s guy but these yokos are a step above again. Took a mate out and he described it as having a cheat code enabled on a computer game, not sure I’ll be saying the same in winter conditions, but for now they are excellent.
Anyway enough rambling on. Heres some pics from my first proper day. Enjoying a 130 mile blast round my favourite roads in North Wales (these are away from the campervanists and holiday makers).

They do go like stink, the way the power is delivered on boost certainly help. I’ve an itch for one since experiencing a friends WR1, a Hawkeye JDM twinscroll would be perfect.

It’s going to be used in all wethers. It’s life as a winter garage queen are over I’m afraid. I want to treat it with bilt hamber clear underseal. I don’t particularly like the black underseal as it’s difficult to spot any rust forming, or if I ever sell it, that I’m not hiding something.
It needs to be done before winter. I’d prefer to take it somewhere to be done on a ramp as doing it on my back on axle stands really doesn’t appeal.
I’ve gone through the wad of receipts for the car. The previous owner certainly didn’t scrimp on servicing and keeping on top of things as they wore out.
It’s conditions a testament to its previous owner’s enthusiasm for the car. I have promised him first refusal if I ever sell it.
Oh and I’m also on my 3rd tank of fuel singe getting it Saturday.
Might have to increase my milage on the insurance if this continues.

Excellent. Blobeye Impreza my first ever "properly fast" car. Ended up with around 400bhp which was tame in terms of modifications of the day, but it was incredible.

I think good ones are only going up price wise. They used to be everywhere, but when was the last time you saw one on the road? Will have another Impreza. Maybe soon.
Lots are getting broken for spares as the shells are rotten. Those from japan are now getting rarer and command a premium. Give it 3-5 years when the yanks can import them watch them double in price over night.
That looks a superb replacement for the FN2 Sam...

Never owned one myself, been out in a few inc my pals road legal but very track / hill climb focused Subaru and as you said, they pull like a train
I've considered these as well as a weekend car for when I start looking, but very much out of my depth with them with having no experience at all...

A couple of years ago a friend let me have a drive in his Spec C RA at Snetterton. It was astonishing. Describing it a having a cheat mode enabled is a fantastic analogy. Compared to how hard I need to work to keep up with anything in my clio it was effortlessly fast, incredibly communicative and responsive. The best vehicle I've ever driven.

You can use Dinitrol clear if you aren't keen on black, that's what I had mine done with.
It was remapped by Andy Forest. Its running a miltek turbo back exhaust and i think a 3 port boost solenoid. Previous owner who had the work done estimates about 350ish and similar torque. I don’t have a dyno printout to confirm as I think Andy used to live map them on the road. My JDM hawk STI is an absolute hoot so I know just how you feel about driving it. Twinscroll is something else.
You can use Dinitrol clear if you aren't keen on black, that's what I had mine done with.
I think its pretty much 300hp per tone as it weighs about 1350kg.

Took it to a local subaru specialist near me for a quick chat and look over. Didn’t get it on a ramp but he thinks it’s a good one.
Always reassuring to hear.
Only small problem is.. I can’t stop driving it. Think I’ll need to invest in some shares for Tesco with the amount of momentum 99 its gone through.
Also confirmed it’s a practical, sensible family car when needed.
Picking up a second hand wheel well cover and carpet tomorrow to protect the boot from damage from the pram.
I’ll look at changing the current yoko ad08r on it once summer is over. Sizing is a bit of an issue as it runs a 235/45 r17 which limits your choice considerably. Only real option is the Goodyear f1 assy
