Chimaera insurance
Discussion
Hi all, I was just curious what you guys pay to insure your Chim? The reason being is that people say they get cheaper insurance via the TVR car club, or classic car ins etc. I'm asking because i pay £205 fully comp from Admiral, just a run of the mill company and found classic car quotes dearer, my circumstances are max no claims, garaged, less than 3000 miles a year, although I intend it to be a daily driver once running ok, I live 2 ad a half miles from work but i live in Bristol in an expensive postcode, a couple of miles up the road and I'd probably shave 25 quid off that

I'm paying £203 fully comp through Footman, Andy. 7000 miles garaged, agreed car value of 18k, I'm in north Bristol so similar pricing.PaulH69 said:

I have used 'normal' insurance on TVRs in the past but of course you are only going to get market value should the worst happen, no matter what YOU think it's worth. And we've all heard about what assessors think a car is 'worth.' With 'agreed value,' that's what you'll get, minus the excess, which is also often much less too.

Exactly this. Admiral will treat your car like a 25 year old Ford mondeo if you have an incident. You can get agreed value policies via the comparison sites now, but Admiral won’t do that for you.

Also another benefit of a proper classic insurance, Classicline told me with my policy if the car was in an accident I could choose the repairer and would also have salvage rights if it got written off.
choosing a repairer is a bonus and do you mean salvage rights as in buy back from the insurance company? If so I thought any one could?scottliv said:
I have been with Lancaster for 4 years and is £190 with agreed value and legal. As it is a second car I had no no-claims. That is with TVR Car Club discount. I also am in a very lively TVR CC area with a very proactive RO which is always good.
One hell of a deal there thenDue to a recent change of policy (they won't insure you if you are parked in public) and general price hikes, I would steer away from Footman James. I have had to change to Classicline because FJ would no longer insure my Chimaera. I believe that they have got themselves into a spot of bother with their underwriters and it has led to them having to up their prices and alter their policies.
