Pinto engine? Is that right? Did that supersede the Kent? When? Still carby?
My memory is getting sketchy.
Cheers

The Mk3 Cortina was the first UK car to have the 1600 & 2000 OHC Pinto engines, along with 1300 & 1600 Kent engines.
The 1600 Kent was dropped from UK Mk3 range in 73 when the Mk3 had a facelift.

Hi. No smoke whatsoever, as you would expect at 19000 miles.

From a Pinto, I would expect start up smoke @ 19000 miles, from harderned valve stem seals, but I recently bought a 17000 mile Pinto car, and found it not to be so.

How rough was it before paint ? Do you have pictures before paint ?

Yes. New paintwork was just a refresh. There were a few small scratches and surface rust bubbles, but other than those, the paint was immaculate. There is now no corrosion anywhere on the body or chassis. It is mint.

They were dogs when new & the passage of time won't have improved it. A mate was an apprentice at the local Ford dealers when these were current. His full time job was camshafts & diff rebuilds.

Hmmm, surface rust bubbles are rarely just surface, and original paint rarely reacts and causes bubbles, like poor new paint can.

This is why I am always wary of freshly painted cars being put up for sale straight away and would pay similar money for one that had not. They are only original once.

From the advert.
"Repainted in 1997 and recently refreshed with a new top coat".
The repaint in 97 will be the cause of the "surface rust bubbles" then.

Possibly, but sounds like new paint on bad paint if that is the case, 19000 miles and painted twice.

You will know the 2.0XL I sold, in Daytona Yellow, the 2 door. Saw it last year, still looks mint, that must have been painted getting on for 20 years ago ?. Should have kept that one.
