Volvo XC 70 tyres

I have a Japanese import 2004 xc70 which has been a perfect car for my wife and I, so much so that we bought another this time another Japanese import but 3.2 litre. This car is fine but the ride is harsh over bumps compared to the other car which has to me the perfect compromise of ride and handling
The 2008 runs on 235 55 R 17 compared to the older car 215 65 R16. I have a spare set of these 215 wheels and tyres
If I fitted them to the 2008 car will I have problems with computer settings, abs, speed, suspension settings, steering toe in toe out, or will it be just fine?

According to https://tiresize.com/tyre-size-calculator/ the 16s you have are 0.7% smaller in overall radius, so I doubt you'd notice any difference in speedo accuracy etc. Assuming the outgoing wheels don't have TPMS sensors in them I can't think of any reason you'd have issues running the 16s.

Another thing to consider could be the type of tyres you're running. I've gone from a D5 XC90 running 17s and Pirelli Scorpion Verde tyres to a V8 XC90 running 18s and Michelin CrossClimates. Despite the larger wheel diameter, the Michelins ride noticeably better.
