Am I mad selling my A110?

I need some emotional/rational support here...
Bought the A110GT when I lived in town, had lots of sweeping A roads and dual carriageways, a weekly 120-mile round trip commute, and a garage to store it in. Awesome. However, I've since moved to the Isle of Wight, and whilst there are a few cracking roads here, they're more often than not clogged up with bikes and camper vans, so I rarely get to make proper use of it other than the now 200-mile weekly round-trip to work. I'm shortly going to lose my (borrowed) garage and no prospect of getting one, and the sea air isn't kind to cars over the winter. When I do travel these days, I tend to need to take more stuff with me than I can fit in the Alpine.
So, I'm considering selling up and buying a VW Golf R 20, there's one I've got my eye on that's at the right price. Practical, cheaper/easier to live with, local dealer servicing, easier parts availability etc etc. It's a bit of a yob-mobile, but good fun to drive even if it's not a patch on the Alpine. My head tells me it's a good decision, heart still torn.
Am I being mad? Will I regret this for ever?

I had a Cupra 4Drive, effectively a Golf R - practical yes, spacious, well equipped etc etc but got rid after 18 months - dull as dishwater.
But, that was me, depends if you want a rare, cost effective to run, thoroughbred or a ten a penny fast family hatchback

A fun car certainly - but not convinced it would be a good choice if you are looking for something easier to live with. More space for luggage or odments for sure, but significantly less refined, and a lot of turbo lag. I'd personally not choose it over an A110 for a 200 mile commute.neil-g8km6 said:

Had a look at one today, looked fun but too damned small for my current needs - I might as well stay with the Alpine.

Test drove a Golf R at the weekend, and once you accept they've filled every available hole in the body with molten lead, it's not a bad car - lots of creature comforts, I don't mind the touch screens (had two Teslas so I'm used to crappy interfaces), and it'll be much more usable for me. I think I'm grieving for a change in my (driving) lifestyle, the house move has left me with much less real-world use of the A110 and it's just not getting the love any more.
So, new plan is a Golf R as an interim, and a Hyundai Ioniq 5N once those start to appear on the used market. At least those are both fun cars, even if they're very different...
As an unscientific test, my lowest recorded average speed over a tank took place on the IoW; driving nirvana it is not.
More supportively, they'll always be around in the market if you need to move on right now; if circumstances change you'll already know just how good they are, and that ought help the resolve to get back in another?

Yeah, Just done a 22-mile round trip that took 50 minutes despite being mostly out of town. Fast this island is not, although once in a blue moon you get gifted an empty Military Road, which is one of the most beautiful stretches of road in the south. Problem is when I'm not on the island, my driving comprises a brief spin through the New Forest (during rush hour so rarely spirited), then M27/M3/M25/M4. Turn around and do it the other way. I rarely get to go anywhere else.
