I’ll start by saying I have a problem, I’m not rich and it’s not looking like an ever will be but I’m doing ok.
I spend too much money on cars, im not up there in the league of some folks who have a “stable” or a “collection”
But I’ve worked my way through a though p cars, a basic Ferrari Cali V8 and now I’m the proud owner of a 2015 lambo huracan, loving it so far and not in a hurry to change as it’s very early days BUT, I’m not getting any younger so I’m planning to possibly upgrade to a Huracan spyder which I know for a decent model will set me back an additional 20k
Oorrrr, as was my earlier plan, prior to getting sidetracked and buying a huracan, a nicely specced 458 spider.

So the question is, as both cars are now totally discontinued and both have NA engines, in the world of leccy and turbos, which will be the best investment and hold value down the line. Have the 458s peaked and might the huracans start to rise just a tad now that they are recently discontinued or might they all go down in equal chunks as the government squeeze gas guzzlers to drive up green sales.

I’m asking because, when I do make the change it will likely be the last decent car that I can afford as I’ll be winding things down work wise and might struggle to fund anything like this again.

Opinions please smile

Opinions ? Changing car every few weeks is far more expensive than depreciation ( dealer spread etc etc)

It’s, by your own admission the last ‘decent’ car that you will ever get to buy and your fretting over what’s the best investment.

FFS - Get a hold of yourself and decide on what one will give YOU the most enjoyment.

I get it, you’re not wrong that I need to get what works for me but I don’t want to commit financial suicide.

Fwiw I’m not nearly ready yet but it’s hit mail for me to be looking regularly and then biting when I see something that takes my fancy.

Christ on a bike, people need to calm down and attempt to answer the question, even though any answer will likely be wrong smile

Ok, personal opinion then, here goes:

I think the 458 is a nicer car, they're pretty reliable and values are likely to be not too bad as long as you don't go nuts on it with the mileage. Ferrari's do tend to suffer a bit with some mileage on resale values which is a shame but if you're going to get one, keep it a good few years and put maybe 2 to 3 thousand miles a year on one which you buy at a decent price because it's already got some mileage on it, I reckon you'd walk away without your bank account haemorrhaging cash.

I'm not that familiar with the lambo market for the most part because I'm probably what many would consider to be a Ferrari fanboy. Which obviously has influenced this response. Good luck!

that is a bit mean imo
I do agree he/she should choose whatever gives him/her the most enjoyment, but financial considerations do play a role for most people.
I think a 458 is the better car in terms of value retention (just because Ferrari...), but even better would be an older car like a 355 or a 328 - obviously a very different driving experience.
I do agree with the above comment, that cheapest one if the one you own relatively speaking.

Seems to me that Lambos hold their value quite well, so maybe best sticking.

I think Ferrari and Lambo are quite different. Love my 458 but don’t think a Lambo is for me. Probably too tall anyway.

It I would generally go for what you like, I don’t think you’ll do to badly with either.

I did think the lambos ought to hold onto their values quite well especially given that they are the last of the NA now.

I’m very happy with the huracan and so is my missus, although she doesn’t feel confident to drive it yet.
She drove my Porsche 911.1 turbo s and she loved driving that. Such an easy car to drive.
She wouldn’t drive my Cali V8 which was a shame, she didn’t like the whole buttons and paddles process which she just found a bit confusing for some reason.
This was one consideration when buying the huracan as it seems more modern but she still hasn’t had a drive. I’ll need to work on this one.

Re space, the huracan spyder would be plenty spacious for me I’m a trip hazard at 5,5” smile

As I said I’m happy with what I have but I’m thinking ahead and I’m starting to feel that I should get out and drive a 458 spider and see how it compares. I’ll also takes the wife and see how she gets on with it.

I can’t imagine the huracan spyder will be much different from the coupe so I’m ok there.

I have to say these are nice problems to have. smile

I test drove the lp 610-4 in both coupe and spyder and for me the spyder felt like much more of an event. The noise with the roof down is very different to what you get in the coupe despite the same exhaust. It just adds another layer of drama which I think is what these cars are all about. You will not notice the performance difference even though the spyder is some 100kg heavier.

In terms of investment, I’ve been tracking things for a while and it seems like the spyder market has bottomed out at around £140k. Coupes still seem to be dropping a little.
