The battery is dead as a proverbial. What battery would you put in it?

Thanks all,

I think (without going out and looking) that it's a type 067 on my car... this one's a Bosch but Varta et al make equivalents.
What I did find with the Bosch was that it has various external ribs and ridges that made it extremely difficult to slot under the lip of the wing recess, I ended up taking a knife to it to trim bits off but even so it's tight.
I pay a bit more for 3 year warranty in case the extended idle time causes it to fail (as happened once before).
Also having learned the hard way that battery conditioners aren't all they're cracked up to be, I take the battery off the car (and the bike) and store in the house over winter, giving them a couple of days a month on the charger.

Thanks for the advice :-)

I have a CS One, which I set to 'recon', and we seem to have some life in the battery (I got to work in the car today!). However, I'm not overly optimistic beyond the short term. Is it worth getting an Odyssey or Optimus?

Not sure it's related, but noticed today that first click of the key and the oil pressure gauge flicked to its normal position, but then as the engine started went straight to 100% and stayed there. Otherwise, everything normal. Any ideas?

Cheers,

I would check the voltage, static and running. Then do a voltage drop test on the battery to see it's condition.

How old is it?

As described, that brings two thoughts to mind: one is that the oil pressure relief valve has stuck closed (common on the RV8) so it really is at the pressure shown, and secondly that the voltage regulator on the alternator has gone phut and is over-voltage, which won't do your battery much good - but then I guess the voltmeter should be showing that? Much more than 14V is a problem.
As the Rev says, voltage checks should tell you something (and Halfords will do a load test for free, I gather).

Ok, thanks. I'll whip over to Halfords before doing anything else.

By all means get them to check a battery, but these new-fangled testers are known to be a tad unreliable, Better getting an old-fashioned test that puts the battery under load (strain).
I would also steer well clear of Halfrouds when it comes to batteries, they have a reputation of dud batteries and poor customer after-service when testing the supplied dud battery with their tester? That's the information off various Forums I am hooked into.

My last Wedge battery I think 075 came from here in fact my last few have:

Is it worth getting an Odyssey or Optimus?

Bought a yellow top one about 4 years ago. Car is sat in the garage for much of the year and I do disconnect the battery but haven't had to charge the Optima at all. It seems to hold a charge for a long time. I'm only turning over a 4 cylinder engine so I would check the cranking capacity for the V8... I seem to think they didn't have the same capacity/CCA as a normal battery. They are not cheap... probably double the price of a normal battery but if I needed another battery I would definitely buy one of these again.

Cheers Steve
