Earlier in the week had the pleasure of testing the new Vantage at Aston Newcastle, for reference have used dealership for many years for serving purchasing and sales and service is and always has been exemplary.

First view of new Vantage in person left me thinking that I much prefer the shape of mine (I know the colour is not to everyone's taste but always have "exotic colours", maybe down to my age! (31).

When I seen my shape Vantage in person for the first time I wasn't impressed but have grown to love it over the years. Am I the only one who prefers 2018 onwards shape?!

For reference had several astons, Gaydon v8 Vantage and roadster (both sunburst yellow!), 2 2018 shape Vantages (both lime) v12vs coupe and roadster (yellow tang, recently sold v12vsr)

Cheers

Scott

I sat in the new vantage yesterday at Works, they had just had the demonstrator delivered

It was superb, the look, but the interior was just outstanding, out of my price range but wow something to aim for!

Not for me, exterior of new car is leagues ahead, moreover the front and haunches, the old car screams mx5 to me still, not a bad front end per se but the familiarity with another car design has always put me off as it lacks originality

I really like the new design, however, it’s a shame Aston Martin are going down the ‘Russian Doll Design” route again, the Vantage looks very similar to the DB12 and has an identical interior,
At least the previous Vantage had its own original design

There was the infamous Andy Palmer's mother story (cannot tell the difference), but I can think of a couple of manufacturers, where the Russian Doll design philosophy has not hindered sales at all.

Audi Q3; Q5; Q7; Q8.
Mercedes C Class; E Class; S Class.

I like them both. Don’t really know which I like more. I think it’s colour dependent.

Saw the image below in my YouTube feed the other day. Still not sure which I prefer. I’m sure that will trigger the crusty Bond reference haters on here too. So that’s a bonus smile

I don’t get the MX-5 thing. I think Specsavers is the answer there. A lot of cars have slim headlights including the Roma which of course is an ugly copy of the Vantage.

In other news I had a 992 Carrera Cabrio around the Malibu Canyons week before last. It was only a base model though. Very nice car but sounded like a vacuum cleaner. My Vantage roadster is like a supercar in comparison. The damping in the Vantage is so good in comparison. Such an incredible ride handling balance.

Mandatory photo of my MX-5.

I think you’re right, i’ll book you an appointment if you like biggrin

Obviously we’re talking front end only and Its not that its a bad front end, i think mazda did a good job, its just the ‘well known’ familiarity that people have a problem with, they even do a vantage bodykit for the mx5 due to the lights being sooo similar.

Mx5 is the bottom two btw hehe

I get the DB12 front end and interior comparison but that doesnt bother me as its the same family and in some ways i like the front end stamp across the brands models as its a good front end and synonymous with Aston, many of us buy into a brand as we like the front end id / grille of that brand (Audi?)

The previous vantage had great styling all round except for that front end imo which is why they have addressed it, obviously its subjective but Aston have gone with feedback and the majority opinion, they’d be silly not to..

I still cannot warm to the small lights on the old one.

I also prefer the new grille.

Each to their own.

Do you remember this episode of Top Gear?
Standing in front of [is that] a Starbucks coffee shop.

"BMW sued them."
The Judge said, "It [the Chinese car] doesn't look anything like an X5. I don't know what you are talking about".

The 2018 model’s design was certainly a bold step from the version it superseded but I don’t think it’s ageing well and prefer the styling of both the 2011-2017 and the new model.

When the 2018 model came out, I couldn't see past the lights and yes I was one that looked at it in the same terms as the MX5 (it's the lights) however, I'm not one to warm to new cars immediately and they often have to work on me over time.

I have to say now, I really like the 2018 car, love the hunter grill. The new Vantage to me is a more cohesive design all round, visually, all they appear to have done is blend a new front end into a car that looks very similar from the A pillar back.

The interior is a huge step forward albeit, the 2018 interior has grown on me but it cant match the new one.

Saw a new Vantage at a local dealer. Very understated spec but very nice - Aluminite Silver with bronze wheels. I've never been a fan of gold/bronze wheels but I have to admit I really liked them on this car. The new new Vantage is quite nice in person although I wish they would have used some unique styling features versus the DB12. Good looking car but I'll hold onto my Hyper Red car.

Crikey - what other cars is the Vantage competing against? I can think of a few but looking at all this bling, it would be on the bottom of my list.

I think the only constructive thing that can be concluded from this debate is that we each prefer the model / version we already own, or are about to purchase! Perhaps somewhat unsurprisingly... scratchchin

Little value in saying you don't like this one, prefer that one, etc... as all it does it seeks to create divides in the forum. Each to their own!

All Astons are amazing!

You are indeed correct, it must be my age - I'm in my 60th year and prefer the more subtle designs. Hopefully the new 2024 Vantage will be a success and appeal to many others.

Just my biased opinion but the 2011-2017 model is still the best looker.
