Behold the Aston Martin DBX707 AMR24 Edition

Really love both Aston's mega SUV and its Formula 1 car? Here's the special edition to show it

Never let it be said that Aston Martin has not made the most of its Formula 1 involvement. The Vantage has had its turn as safety car (and there was the usefully improved F1 Edition), Fernando Alonso has played his part in creating the Valiant, and you can bet that the Valhalla will benefit in some way from the motorsport association.

Plus, of course, the DBX707 has played a starring role as the medical car. Now, just as the safety car became the Vantage F1 Edition, so the SUV gets its own special edition inspired by its involvement in Grand Prix racing. This is the DBX707 AMR24 Edition, a 707 ‘that shares a racing identity with both the AMR24 F1 car and the Official Medical Car of Formula 1’. It’s a less involved overhaul than for the Vantage, retaining the same powertrain and chassis, but there’s much less need to touch the twin-turbo 4.0-litre, nine-speed auto or all-wheel drive underpinnings as there was with the sports car. Plus there’s the fancy new interior, of course.

Instead, the AMR24 Edition is much more about appearance; Aston says this ‘raises the intensity and road presence even further for the brand’s critically acclaimed, ultra-luxury, performance SUV’. Crucially (for the sake of prestige and status, at least) the AMR24 colours and trims will be unique to this model. They include Neutron White or Onyx Black with Trophy Silver accents outside, with black and a contrast Lime stitch available inside.

But what you really want, of course, is Podium Green with AMR Lime Calipers and Lime Green accents, then Onyx Black/Eifel Green with Lime stitch inside. If you’re doing F1 car homage, do it properly. Whatever the colour choice, 23-inch ‘Fortis’ wheels are standard, as is a unique engine plaque and ‘AMR24’ etched into the door sills ‘leaving occupants in no doubt of the Aston Martin racing bloodline’. Right.

Likely to impress passengers more is the Bowers & Wilkins sound system. A new setup for the AMR24, it’s been engineered to best suit the interior volume and shape and promises the intensity of the exterior makes it inside as well. There’s no more green involved with it, promise. But the wireless charging tray does get some more lime contrast stitch, just to be sure.

Aston’s Chief Commercial Officer Marco Mattiacci described the AMR24 as “a stand-out ultra-luxury SUV with incredible road presence.” He continued: “Aston Martin are competing at the pinnacle of world motorsport, which represents a key pillar in our brand and product strategy for our road cars, and it’s a real pleasure to offer this special edition in celebration of the Aston Martin Aramco Formula 1 Team.” Though a price hasn’t been released, the AMR24 Edition is available to order now. Perfect thing to celebrate British Grand Prix weekend. Or, of course, there are few 707s available in the classifieds

DBX707 AMR24? What a load of gobbledygook. How about giving a proper name.

Apparently in the naming discussions the "DBX707 AMR24" only just pipped "Norman", if that helps.

They're saving Lionel for the next supercar.

I think it should be called the Aston Martin Dennis.
