GPS camera detector power wiring

My smart-phone (PDA) TOMTOM navigator and scamera detector works faultlessly. Now it's time to fit it in the Ultima. I've bought a cig lighter and the instructions say just wire it on to a switched 12v supply and earth. But, the Ultima Sports wiring is a mystery to me and probably anyone else. Although there's a good chance it's a standard loom, and I have a wiring colour description somewhere in the file. Any tips for ease of wiring plus maybe a fuse rating for a cig lighter powering a GPS receiver and PDA ?

Can you tell I don't feel very brave tackling minor electrical jobs in my otherwise sorted Ultima ?

There is a purple wire under the dash somewhere specifcally for the cigar lighter.
It comes from fuse 5 which is 10 amp but also supplies, horn, interior lights, hazards and low beam headlights so could in some instances be fairly loaded.

You would be safer to add a new wire with its own fuse. If you connect it to the brown wire side of fuse 5 (permanent live)you will not need to take it right back to the battery but it will be on all the time.

If you want it to come alive only when the ignition is on then use a relay.
If you buy a relay with its own fuse (usually 30amp so will need changing)connect as follows.
Pin 30 to brown side of fuse 5.
Pin 87 to sockets and from there to earth.
Pin 85 to earth.
Pin 86 to green wire side of fuse 2 (10amp).
