As per the title.

I have done a few track days in Porsche cars, Boxster gts and cayman s pdk. These cars were well suited for the tracks and although they aren’t cheap cars they were a lot less precious to me in terms of. Value compare to my now used low mileage huracan.

I fancy having a go in the huracan but I’m a bit of a lightweight and of course scared to damage it.
So I’m wondering if there is a track that is a bit less technical than say brands hatch, maybe some more longer straight sections that I can give it a blast without fear of going into the gravel.

I’m based in essex so nearer to here preferred but prepared to travel if I need to of course.

Snetterton would be a good shout as it’s got a good mix of corners, plenty of space and some long straights to stretch the legs

Your preservation of yourself and your car is going to protect you more than you think imo. You aren't going to send it at 110%, unless you can't help yourself haha.

Noted re self preservation but when I went on the brands hatch Indy track some melon did a 180 on the first bend in a Renault Clio just because he got excited. My abs kicked in and I was papping meself. He then gave me a toothless grin and said sorry mate I nearly wrote you off.

Lesson learned keep your distance 😂

I stay well away from everyone, if I'm coming up on someone in a non over-taking zone I just stay waaayyy back. I can't be bothered dodging idiots.

There’s plenty of space to try out straight line speed at Silverstone & Bedford for cars that aren’t ‘ideal’ for track work (on the former take it gently into both start line straights).

Most tracks are overtake on left with concent on straights only, apart from caster comb which is right

Some track day organisers have relaxed rules and overtaking can be either side but only think one now does this

As above, Snetterton or bedford would be my go to choices. Bedford especially is a very long track, lots of room to spread out, and lots of decent straights to stretch the legs of powerful cars.

Snetterton is similar... slightly shorter, more technically demanding. But the biggest difference between the two is that you're more likely to encounter race cars at Snetterton, which are happy being a lot closer - bedford is pretty much exclusively road cars, with drivers more likely to keep a good distance.

Also... if you do take to the track, we need pictures!

Hmm and Bedford is closer to me so possibly the preferred option.

Silly question but would a standard huracan (2015) exhaust pass the static and drive by sound test.
My cayman s used to but that wasn’t as loud.

The ONLY way to answer that is to turn up one day when there is a track day on & ask them to test the car before booking.

I know that you had said probably no to brands hatch anyway but having done an evening session there last week, it’s not much fun on the Indy circuit in a faster car anyway. There were a few clear laps but most of them ended up catch several much slower cars per lap - it ended up more like driving on a Sunday afternoon, constantly trying to pick overtaking points as opposed to really stretching the car. There were a couple of new M3s as well who would just thunder down the straights, hammer on the brakes way too early and then creep round the corners before doing the same again. Unless you’re willing to break the rules and slip down during the braking zone, you were stuck behind them and they seemed oblivious to letting any faster cars past, despite catching them very quickly when clear.

There were also quite a few moments where people pulled off risky overtakes and came close to running each other off the road in corners - I saw three where somebody ended up with at least two wheels off the circuit as a result. All in all a bit of a sh*t show!

Agreed re brands Indy circuit on track evening.
I did some in my cayman s and didn’t feel comfortable with some of the behaviour of other drivers.

Went back on a Porsche only session and it was so much better with drivers being half sensible in the knowledge that they aren’t racing drivers and it’s supposed to be enjoyable.

Hence my desire to find somewhere more sensible where I won’t be risking destroying my pride and joy.

The thing about exhaust drive by and static testing does concern me but I can’t imagine a stock exhaust in my V10 would be too loud. It’s pretty much the same as an Audi R8.

I e looked at the Bedford Autodrome and it does look pretty decent but again it might depend on which part of the circuit you’re doing.
The evening sessions seem to be the SW circuit which still has a fair few twists and turns.
I wish it was closer so I could go and have a glance prior to booking something.

Lots to think about here but really keen to get out and test the beast under controlled conditions.

Bedford is a good shout buy you’ll struggle with drive by noise limit. You may be just under on the static limit. Call MSVT and ask. 2015 car with 5.2 litre engine will be loud though and I was just under limit in a 2021 Cayman GTS. GT3s for instance generally all gens are over limit on drive by.

Track is great though for the reasons others mentioned. Long and safe(ish)

I’d forget about Brands Harch Indy, 5 corners in total, lots of them not safe if you spin, not suitable for an expensive and fast road car at all.
Bedford most days is GP layout and I’d only book that. Occassionally they split the track into 2 parts and have eg. some event on 1 part and trackday on the other. I’ve done that sort of layout once and it’s nowhere near as good as GP circuit.

Snetterton doesn't to my knowledge have a drive by limit.
It's static limit is 105 dB (A) at 0.75 metres up and out from the tailpipe at 3/4 of the rev limit.

Generally speaking, the limits are advertised on the track day sales websites.

Bedford last time I was there was 101 dB (A) static I think (might have been 103) and 87.5 dB (A) drive by.
In my experience it is easy to spot the drive by microphones.
With my car (V8 TVR) if I was going to fail anything it was the static test.

They will generally test your car for you on any day at any MSV track when there's a track day on.
If you want to be sure before travelling, phone the track of your choice and arrange an appointment.
They WANT you on track, so will be quite happy to test your noise levels for you.
Especially a Huracan smile
