To OLED or not?

I'm going to be replacing my living room 55inch Samsung LED with a new 65inch.

The room has sliding patio doors down one side so it can be very bright with the curtains open. On the other hand, watching in the day will be very limited with most use in the evenings for films (BluRay, Prime, Disney+ etc), TV shows (streaming or Freeview) and main sporting events (Wimbledon, Ashes, Euros etc).

Bearing all this in mind, is OLED the best way forward?

I have an LG C65 OLED but it’s a few years old now and also have a similar situation to you. I use some translucent vertical blinds on the rare occasion I put the TV on during the day which works fine.

The new model OLEDs are significantly brighter than older ones.

Thanks for that - that makes my decision easier than it was.

Looking at last years LG C3 to keep the price reasonable.

i went from an old but v good Plasma to a top tier OLED and the difference is staggering. Night and day

With model numbers, you could probably look-up things like panel brightness and info about any anti-reflective coatings present on the two sets you're comparing. RTINGS have an impressive database.

Is your current set LCD? You're aware of OLED screen burn? How long is the OLED to last you? John Lewis I think offer a five year warranty that covers screen burn. Depends upon how you'll be using it I guess.

Simple answer - yes

I have an LG E series OLED in a bright room, with full length bi-folds. No issues with TV brightness levels. 4 years and no screen burn/striping.
