Our 2011 F11 appears to have acquired a faulty blower. I first noticed this a couple of weeks go when the cabin fan was cutting in and out on a hot day. Manual control or setting to max didn't fix it but stopping the car and restarting everything cured it. But then it happened again last week. Again when the car was very hot. It's possible it's happened other times and I've just not noticed it with the cabin not being too hot to begin with.

Code I'm getting is 801207.

I'm not sure this is a traditional resistor pack problem as the fan does not work reliably at full speed though given the relatively low cost I might do that anyway but I'm thinking I'll also replace the fan itself. Both job look very straight forward.

So, questions. Anything else I should be checking here or are we thinking it's one of these two and doing them both should cure it?

Where to source parts of the right quality? I notice on ebay, a fan can be had for less than £40 and resistor pack for less than £20 but I'd rather not save pennies if they're junk but don't want to go OEM just for the sake of it either. Any recommendations folks?

Mahle regulator and Nissens fan come in about £150 from autodoc. Seems okay.

Yep. Looks fine. I just want to check I'm not overlooking any other possible cause and make sure I don't fit crap parts.

I’ve just had the same except mine (2015 M5) has gone completely along with a burned out smell. The rear still works so guess the 4 zone system must have 2 separate fans.

To add to above, I got the main dealer to do it in the end, regulator and fan blower replaced and it was just over £800 all in.

So yeah, do it yourself if it's cheap and easy smile

£800! Ouch! My new parts just arrived today so I'll perhaps make a start later. Fingers crossed.

Job jobbed. As car repair jobs go, that one was almost enjoyable! Seems to all be working fine though actually it was before as well with just the odd wobbler. Hopefully fully fixed now though.

Fingers crossed Gad-Westy . I've also bookmarked this thread just in case my own car ends up having a similar issue at some point.
