Hello,

I've got some cheap commuter tyres on my road bike (lifeline prime armour). They've been on there for a few years for commuting and the odd ride, they haven't done a lot of miles at all. I've picked up some small nicks in places, but I've noticed some odd sidewall wear on both tyres. Not sure of the technical term, but you can see a few thin threads in places and it looks like it's unravelling almost. There's nothing catching either tyre. Suspect it's the for new tyres, but has anyone got any idea what might cause this? They are usually at about 90-95 psi.

Pretty common. Had this on all my Conti GP tyres for the last few years and they’ve been relatively new when the threads first appear. It’s from the fabric strip that’s stuck on to protect the tyre casing.

Never personally had any issues. Just carefully trim them off. Assuming the rest of your tyre is in good order it’s certainly not worth replacing them due to these loose threads.
