I follow the Bennets Bike Social group on Facebook which has pretty good reviews of gear etc.

Recently, ANY post discussing Superbike Factory is almost immediately deleted due to (according to Steve Rose) "defamatory comments".

Seen they also do a what bike series at Superbike Factory.....

So much for unbiased consumer reviews.....

Remember in the 90's when Suzuki brought out the TL1000s and absolutely thrashed Honda's limp-wristed Firestorm with it?

Honda very quickly warned EMAP (the publishers of MCN, Bike magazine etc) that if the didn't bury the TL then they were going to withdraw all of their (fairly substantial) advertising.

As if by magic, overnight the previously glowing reviews of the TL suddenly focused on wayward handling issues, it was branded as a widow-maker and sales plummetted.

Why would anyone splashing out a substantial wodge of cash simply stand back and watch their brand be rubbished, why would anyone receiving substantial wodges of cash be foolish enough to let that hapoen?

Is there actually any evidence of this? There’s plenty of stories like this but nothing ever substantial.

They did say some of the comments were dodgy legally and that anything posted on their page made them liable as well

I'm sure it was all Honda that burried the TL1000S and it had nothing to do with a rotary damper! rolleyes

I'm flattered that you think my opinion is enough make or break an entire model range.

There's no such thing as journalistic integrity these days, very little of it in my lifetime, last I remember biking related was probably Schiller and Co in the early FB days. Bikesocial reaches a lot of people, some of the content is pretty decent, some of it is expensive to produce and it needs paid for.

Bizarrely, I'm not in the slightest bit surprised that your arrogance might cause you to think that's what I meant.

And wasn't it the TL that suffered from cracked frames regularly?

There was also a recall on the K5 GSX-R1000 for frames cracking.

Performance Bikes were never shy about slating a bike regardless of who the manufacturer was, when a magazine is shifting 90,000 copies a month they're the one with the whip hand not the manufacturer.

Kawasaki ended up giving away Ohlins dampers for one model of ZXR750 after the press gave the bike bad reviews due to the poor suspension.

PH has a 'no naming and shaming policy too'

Although some get through, if someone/ the Co. complain, they are quickly removed
