I thought I would start a thread that's in readiness for any of us going to stay up through the night (or some of it anyway) to see how the election is going, from exit poll results to any big shocks that may come up.

I have several bottles of whisky on standby should the SNP properly fall over.

Could be a fun (if long) night.

Good idea - often on election night there are several threads running and it's a job to keep up with them all

The danger is you are a smidge early starting it and it might be on page 13 by the time we get to election day/night

I wonder if the Moderation team would be so kind as to sticky it until the 5th of July??

I'll ask

I've taken the Friday off work in expectation of a proper drubbing for the SNP, and the resultant cataclysmic hangover that will inevitably result. I will warmly toast every sitting MP they lose, then I'll drink commiserations to the UK at the tragic news of an incoming SirKeef Flipflop government. There will be no winners next Friday.

Election night is always a good one. Brexit night was another good one. Luckily cos this is in July it’ll be light outside by 4-5am and not blowing a gale like November would have been - so an all-round good night. The result is inevitable and there’ll be some ‘Portillo moments’ for sure …

Woo, sticky thread.

Looking at that link of announcement times. 2am could be fun with Dundee.

Some of the recent polling has predicted that of the present serving cabinet, only two front benchers might survive. For the first time in many decades a serving Prime Minister is predicted to lose his seat. That would be the Portillo moment to top them all - I think we'd probably have to rename it in his honour.

You can thank Kinky for that - could be the first election in several years where I don't have to follow multiple threads

It gets very hard when you've had a few hehe

I love a good election night but I'm getting a bit old to stay up all night and I have to work on Friday. I think the last one I managed to stay up for was Trump winning in 2016 - in 2019 I was asleep before midnight and 2020 USA was more election week than election night.

I’ve had a fascination into staying up on election night ever since 98, when I was driving back through the night from a very long airport run. Listening to the results coming in was really interesting and I’ve been hooked ever since.
I’m annoyed I couldn’t get the Friday off work this time though, so it’s either stay up really late, or get up really early!
