Feel I need a sanity check and also some lube.

When did ordering a skip get so bleedin’ expensive?

4 yard skip for 7 days and I’m getting quotes in the £190 zone. On top of this I have to put it on a public highway and I have to get a permit which is, and I st you not, £150 plus whatever admin fee the skip company decides to put on as only they can get the permit and not us oikes because rulz. Thanks Essex CC…

I remember it was only about a decade ago when it was about £80 plus a drive to the local council offices for a permit which was about a tenner. Different county but c’mon man.

So, how much is it around your way? Are we all getting reamed or is it because I live in the Essex badlands?

No wonder the builder left it to me to sort as I probably thought he would be ripping me off had he organised it!

£225 here for 4 yards
The company let you put some bagged plasterboard in.
Off road, no real time limit!
I left the old steel bath on top, hoping it would disappear to free up some space.
3 days later - gone!

We had a couple of skips last year and they were over the £200 mark. I'm sure we had a 6 or 8 yard one that was £280ish. That was off the road but for as long as we needed. Had it filled within a few days haha.

£324 around our way for an 8 yard on the driveway - with an open ended collection (I said likely 3 weeks).

ETA: Hippobags/Hipposkips must be quite profitable.

Have you tried Dunmow ? Usually the best around Essex. Although £190 for a 4yd is not overly terrible.

Skip license is £104 so sounds like they are taking the piss there.

I don't think they've ever been particularly cheap. I can remember paying over £100 for a skip (can't remember what size, but it wasn't huge) 15 years ago.

EU waste/pollution directives (effectively still in force) and council numptyism. Pay more, get less. Extrapolate and eventually the UK will stop working completely. Did I mention the roads? The kerbs around here have weeds up to a foot high sprouting from them.

Depending on what you're putting in the skip, a collection by a grab lorry might be more cost effective

I assume all the building firms that box off a parking space with hoarding don't pay hundreds a week to keep them there for months while they do basement conversions and bigger builds

4 tonne skip is £160 round here (https://www.thorncliffebs.co.uk/product/4-tonne/). Have it for as long as you want.

OP if you owned and drove a skip lorry across Essex, twice, how much would you want paying?

£206 here for Chambers, who deliver and collect on time. And put the skip exactly where you want it.

Must be close to £2k worth on the back of this lorry.
All 8y skips.
We were getting ours for a bathroom refurbishment.

3 high is the HSE limit unless secured by additional means.

That looks like a DVSA pull for insecure load waiting to happen.

It was a bit wobbly.

Can you pile up in the garden and get a grab man?
