The cam cover and the spark plug cover are usually sealed with high temp RTV.
Do you mean the viton gasket? This was aftermarket upgrade. Did you have one fitted before? If you did, then if you can't get hold of one you may want to check the bolts aren't too long if you revert to the factory RTV method. Likewise, if you haven't had one fitted before, you'll need bolts that are 5mm longer (no more) to fit it.

The workshop which serviced the car in the past usually also sealed in everything with silicon. The Result of this is a not negligible amount of silicon lumps in front of the gross sieve of the dry sump pump. On the water side this already killed my water pump, there I found also some deposits of silicon sealing in the mechanical seal. So now I want to reduce the use of silicon sealing to a minimum.
That sounds like some poor workmanship there, especially on a 'finish touch' part of the job.
That aside, who was it you tried to get one from?
I have a spare, yet to be fitted Racing Green viton gasket. If you would like to order one to be delivere to me, I'll happily send mine on to you.
ETA: You'll need a set of longer bolts. They are M6 and M8 in size. I splashed the cash on aluminium ones (to match the head material) and ordered them from evilbay. Unfortunately, the available sizes (for the perimeter one) were too long and I needed to shorten each one by 5mm. Really easy as they were aluminium. The sparkplug cover size was available. Stainless steel would be cheaper and available in the correct sizes (or were when I looked) but would need a bit of copperslip or similar to stop them reacting with the aluminium head. Not trying to teach you to suck eaggs, just giving complete info for the next reader.

I like the idea of using a gasket rather than silicone for the reasons mentioned.

Did anyone ever get some cut? what thickness of flexoid paper would be best?
You could even draw around the cover and make your own...

Sorry for being of for a wile, was a bit busy last weeks. The one I have already ordered comes from SC Parts. Thanks for your offer to lend me yours, but the one I have ordered not seems to be the same as the Racing Green type. I decided to clean up my old one and get it in with a little amount of silicon sealing. If it is tight than I'll leave it till next cover off. Otherwise I will live with a bit of oil coming out and replace it when the new one has been delivered. Good Idea to change to aluminium bolts.
