F25 X3 30D whining/heat in wheel arch/brakes
Discussion
My “14 F25 X3 30D had been acting up lately.
After about 15 mins driving the car starts shaking as if I’m driving on a cattle grid. After about a minute it goes. Second problem is there’s a speed related whine in the cabin as if there’s a wheel bearing problem coming. The car is on 60k miles. I’d that about the right time to change them? Third problem, after a long motorway run I noticed spongy brakes and when I inspected the driver’s side front wheel arch there’s a lot of heat there compared to the passenger side. Also the discs look scored.
Can’t work out whether this is one problem or many at the same time. I have an Elm-compatible dongle to connect to the OBD port but have a range of not very good free apps.
So:-
1) Any suggestion what the car problems are?
2) Any recommendations on the cheapest way to read the codes in terms of apps/payment before I hand the car over to a local indy please?
All help appreciated!

Yep, seized calliper. NOT covered under warranty as it's caused by corrosion apparently. £949 for discs/pads + one calliper... I do wonder sometimes what is actually covered by these expensive warranties sometimes....
BMW insured warranty?Seized calipers are specifically excluded under the "Named component" cover. With the "Comprehensive component" cover, it doesn't mention brake calipers at all in the policy handbook, so you'd need to call to confirm because, you know, why make policy wordings easy to follow for Laymen?

I called the warranty support and they say it's covered as long as the seal isn't broken, corrosion alone will not be enough for warranty rejection. BMW holding steady, I've asked for the calliper to be kept.
