polishing new paint.
Discussion
Got the S back on Saturday with a nice new front end, all freshly painted and looking nice.
This morning I discovered it had been bird-bombed overnight, right in the dead centre of the new bonnet - I washed it off but the paint is badly marked, this bird must have been eating nitromors, battery acid and builders sand, judging by the state of the paint..
Now on older paint, I would get the orbital polisher out and the meguiars 3-stage polish system, and polish it off - but what do you do when the paint is new? You're not supposed to wax it for a couple of months.
I think the safest thing to do is to leave it and then polish it once the paint has cured. Is there any other way to remove this etched-in mark more quickly?

and how much did it cost? (if you don't mind me asking, mine needs doing as well)
Believe me, you don't want to know!
I had a wee bump, had to replace the bonnet (even although the damage was pretty minimal) and then prep and spray the front end. Most of the labour cost was in fitting and prepping the new bonnet so the cost isn't a typical "respray cost".
Hi, I realise it's a bit late now, but I've asked a couple of people in the trade and they've recomended using a product called Mer. It's about £14 and can be used in damp or dry. I bought some and I've just used it on mine and she's come up lovely. I usually use the Auto Gymm range. The container says it's also suitable for new paintwork, Cheers, Dave
