New 640d GC owner
Discussion
Thought I best start a different thread than the insurance one
Bought a run out 2018 Sonic blue GC
1 owner
Cream interior
Keyless
HUD
VDC
Adaptive LED lights
360 cameras
20” bi- colour wheels. ( with blisters on the diamond cut part. Need a refurb but I have an alternative set on stand by)
Seems nice so far
Need to get stuck in tomorrow to clean some parts of the leather and carpet. And of course give the exterior a good buff up
Couple of questions
The drivers seat moves a bit. I did read about this but not sure of the cause/ solution??
No powered boot lid. Not bothered but surprised. There’s a lock button on the lid. Not sure what that’s for
I’m sure I will think of something else….

Awww, everyone loves a good insurance rant.
I don't think many Bimmers got powered tailgates apart from the Tourings. Everything is an option on BMWs.
In what way is the seat moving? Wobbling laterally?
I can recommend Gliptone liquid leather if you are rather partial to the new leather smell. Keeps the leather nicely nourished as well.

the only problem i have had with mine is the driver side window sometimes gets stuck half way when using it. then you have to keep pressing the button to get it down / upBought a run out 2018 Sonic blue GC

New wheels on
Think they look better. I do prefer silver wheels. But I’m not bowled over though.
I’ll give em a few days.
Drives better though minus RF tyres
Great colour car and deffo agree, silver wheels look superb...Think they look better. I do prefer silver wheels. But I’m not bowled over though.

But not sure on those aftermarket alloys or their styling...
351Ms would suit your 6er to a tee IMO
I think 351 are what’s on in a 19” variety
The bi colour ones are 20”. Same style as previous years but of course not silver. So I could just get them refinished.
These wheels were bought for my Insignia touring. Hadn’t fitted them and then of course bought the 6. Just a happy accident.
I wonder if something with more metal in might be better. Like an Alpina wheel or similar

M359s could look well I reckon; here on BMAutosport: https://www.bmautosport.co.uk/new-20-veemann-vc359...The bi colour ones are 20”. Same style as previous years but of course not silver. So I could just get them refinished.

But I'm one to stick with OEM wheels where I can personally TBH; they just seem to work well...
Style 356s could work very well IMO; if you can find a set: https://www.auto-treff.com/wcf/index.php?article/3...
Or maybe Style 343s: https://www.auto-treff.com/wcf/index.php?article/3...

It’s interesting though. The Oem wheels. One has been replaced completely and one welded.
3 of them really rough were the diamond finish is. RF tyres don’t help with the impacts but it’s not a good reflection of quality overall regardless.
Agree; binning RFTs is the best thing to do IMO; first thing I did with my F31 and I dropped down to 18s too as the rural roads that surround me turn wheels square in no time!3 of them really rough were the diamond finish is. Great cars and I really enjoyed mine for the 75k miles that I owned it but sold it in the end because of the insurance. £550 to £1350 for no reason.
It was faultless until it destroyed a big end bearing but BMW replaced the engine and turbos under warranty at 98k miles.
Mine was on 18" wheels and I kept the run-flats and had no issues.
Strangely I never had the button in the boot to lock the car.

I also have quite an irritating vibration from a seat. Albeit the passenger seat when it is unoccupied. When I'm driving I can see it vibrating slightly back and forth. I'm not sure if passengers feel anything whilst it has some weight on it, I will have to ask the missus next time she is in the car. My car has the comfort seat option. I'm sure I've read something before about this issue but wondering if anyone has found a fix for it? Pics for the sake of it, Pistonheads seems to be one of the forums where its a bit picture shy.

It’s more of a click left and right as you go round corners. Apparently lubricating the bushes underneath is the cure. So I’ll give that a try.
Are you sure it's not just the seat frame creaking? Not sure what seats the 6 series has but my F30 330D's M sport seats have clicked/creaked round corners since it was 30K miles old. I've tuned out of it now and don't notice it anymore tbh. But if it is slack seat runner bushes, or the bushes in the hinges, I would replace them and lube em' up with plenty of decent synthetic grease.Pyrolysis said:

Yup, my 30d does that as well. All of my cars across different brands have had a slight seat wobble when unoccupied, so I think it's just a 'thing'. It's a tall and heavy part of the seat which is hinged, so there will always be some movement when its unloaded. The missus doesn't notice anything in my passenger seat when her substantial mass is plonked onto it
