We're considering buying a DVD recorder (it's either that or we've got to buy new video tapes!). I've had a bit of a trawl round and Richer Sounds have a Cambridge model for £199. I've always got good kit from Richer Sounds but have never heard of this brand.

Has anyone got any tips about buying one of these - we really are very price sensitive at the moment so it might be that the answer is don't bother for now as the cheap ones are all crap!

Cheers

Not used any Cambridge Audio DVD players but have used their Amps in the past. IMHO they are a first class piece of kit, especially for the money.

They are now owned by Richer, and only sold in their shops. Not bad kit though, but not as good as it used to be

I've used Cambridge audio interconnects before, they do the job. I would trust it if you couldn't get anything similar for less money.

Thanks Zippee and Stamp - we kinda got a bit carried away today in Costco and bought a Samsung DVD recorder for 140 quid!!

It doesn't seem to be multi region but that isn't too much of a problem for us and I'll have a trawl around for a handset hack. We've set it up Ok and tested it and it seems to be OK for the money. Anyone had any experience with these?

Sony do an excellent one the GX210, available for £150 from DeRs shop, I donth think there are any that compare at that price.
However, I've just bought a Pioneer which also has 80gb hard drive as well for £250.

I bought from (Sainsburys) about Three years ago for £199 'Mico'....
Precisely....

Anyway it worked more-or-less OK untill this morning,

recording one channel, Sky.
as an impromptu sky recorder/player.
though no Hard Drive.

Had it to bits this morning, and it looks quite a bit more involved than the components scattered about inside the player, pictured here the other day.

Take it and see if its repairable in the morning
