How hot does it get throughout summer? Is there a best month to go so we don't roast, but can still enjoy a road trip in a convertible? I'm thinking of flying into SF, spending a few days there before a night or two at Yosemite, then back to SF for a couple of days before doing the Pacific Coast Road to LA. After that, Vegas, the Grand Canyon and back to SF or LA for the flight home. It's for our honeymoon mext year, and we're just weighing up the best time to go. Late August/early September was my best guess - am I right?

Without wishing to divert my original (and genuine) post, I'm kinda hoping our own Los Angeles will show up with his very useful advice.

Did the same thing but in a BUS.

Was a bit sceptical beforehand but it was OK. Saw LOTS more that you'd see from a car
and stayed at some "interesting" locations-orange county our motel 100yds from local knocking shop!!LOL.

Gave a good insight that even in Cali/Ariz it isn't all a bed of roses.......

MoJo.

Please don't tar all Scottish people with the L.A. brush, we are not all like him.

And the Warm smell of colitas, although if you're close to LA it could just be halitosis.

Thanks for your replies so far.

Apache - I'll definately look into Furnace Creek Inn, as I'd like to drive back to SF from Vegas via Death Valley.

Having had some time to think about LA, we'll probably give it a miss and turn from the PCH to head to Vegas via the Mojave Desert.

Anyone know where that meteor crater is that featured in the film 'Starman'? I know it's in a desert somewhere in the SW of the USA, but not sure which state, or what it's called...

Edited to say: Found it, Winslow, 30 miles east of Flagstaff, AZ.

The only meteor crater I'm aware of is near a WInona and Two Guns in Arizona. It's huge. www.meteorcrater.com funnily enough

I was in California (Sunnyvale/Mountain View area) back in July/August. Depending on where you are, it ranges from pleasantly hot to bloody scorching.

Monterey Bay Aquarium is worth a visit.
