Hello All

A friend’s daughter has managed to secure a temp placement at hospital in Oban.

She’s toiling to find accommodation for the 8 week placement period, staring early August, ideally with own kitchen.

Any pointers available from anyone who knows the area? Anyone know of anything?

Much obliged
Nick

Honestly camp in a tent.
A pitch on a site with a toilet block/showers/laundry will be your best bet.
A caravan/mobile home site may have something too.
Any rental will be air b&b up that way or want long term rental.
August to October is not bad weatherwise. It will build character.

Thanks very much. I had suggested that, but didn't exactly inspire her lol

Well done to her. I assume you’ve probably already done this as you’ve posted here, but post up on the local FB groups. Where we are in NE Scot, every day or two there are posts from temporary workers seeking temp accom and most of the time the replies are good suggestions / links. A decent community.

Does she have a car? I could imagine, like here, unless she finds something town centre, not having a car could be another hurdle.

Best of luck to her.

Does the hospital not provide assistance in finding accomodation?

Is the Youth Hostel still in Oban? When I stayed there they had 2-bed rooms.

None whatsoever unfortunately, which is a real disappointment.

I can but wish you good luck, live a few mile from Oban and this question gets asked multiple times a week, folk wanting to work at the hospital, students at SAMS, folk moving "permanently" for work etc etc.
It's a bloody nightmare with most places now weekly holiday rents/Air B&B/ etc etc. Crazy that the hospital offers placements without accom but SAMS were the same, think they have a few rooms now for students.
To make it worse, as you're finding out, August is holiday time and Oban is mobbed. Scottish schools go back mid august but the English schools not until the end of august.

The latter two are on the hospital side of town.
There are a number of B&B places along Soroba Road, try ringing and getting a deal or maybe they could point her in the right direction.
There's also a couple of B&B in Soroba itself but can't recall names.
If I think of anything I'll post here.

One of the most difficult places to stay in Scotland (or even the UK!).
I'd go for the tent/caravan or camping.

10 mile out of town but think they may do the odd long stay:

post a message on the FB link I gave, they'll likely need to join.

hospital is a small friendly one, think they have a staff noticeboard, maybe they could pop up an ad - call reception.
