I'm currently looking potentially at a C Class estate diesel hybrid.

Have read a little about NOx sensors and potential issues, following a software update.

Most of the posts I've read date back a couple of years.

Are these (expensive) horror stories still a thing? Or has the software update that supposedly caused the issues been addressed?

Anything else I should look out for?

Mercedes NOx sensors were made of chocolate for a while. I don't know if that is still the case.

Are you referring to a plug-in hybrid, or 48 volt EQ boost C Class?

Batteries will eventually fail and with regard to a plug-in hybrid, the replacement cost will usually be more than the value of the car, therefore premature scrapping will occur.

Obviously this applies to all battery powered cars, not just Mercedes-Benz. Normally the hybrid IC engine works in conjuction with the lithium battery, so following battery failure, the fully working IC engine cannot be used. We now sometimes see 20 year old Mercedes cars still in everyday use, but that will be unlikely with battery cars.

We're 5000 miles from new into a GLC diesel hybrid and no issues to report, the software often decides that 50% charge is all you can have but easy enough to keep an eye on it and finish up to 100%. That gives us a bit over 60 miles range. Diesel works fine and pulls well enough, I have used it to tow biggish trailers and both power options have impressed.

There's no way I'd have 'bought' it though, the list price is ludicrous. Business contract hire is the way we went.
