Hi All,

Bought a Chimaera with Clive F GT manifolds (no precats and longer headers) and a Clive F 200 cell sports cat. With the exhaust system that's on it (some form of cherry bomb), the idle and low down revs are a bit too quiet for me and want to liven it up. I've got it booked in for the exhaust sleeving but from reviewing endless videos I am concerned that it will be too loud for my European road trip at highway speeds.

Can anyone confirm what noise levels they are getting with GT manifolds and sports cat with either fully sleeved, half sleeved or even somewhere in the middle? Will it be just as loud as a fully decat Y piece or will the sports cat muffle some of the harshness and overall sound?

The only video I can find of this setup is a Griff;

Not looking to buy the ACT cherry system which I know is popular. I'm happy for some tractor noises for a while.

If you have some kind of cherry bomb I your exhaust would that not be replace the silencer box? So how would you be able to have it sleeved? Look at some pics of available exhausts and try and I'd what you have.

Also the "tractor" noise some cars make tend to be when the origional main CAT is removed leaving an empty large canister for the exhaust to echo in. As you have a premium set of manifolds and what I assume is a smaller cat yours should sound fine.

I'd also not look at swapping straight away and see how you like the sound at a variety of road conditions. What may sound brilliant revving on your drive or on a short spirited blast could get irritating on a long run.

Might be interested in swopping a half sleeved exhaust with your cherry bomb one

The Tractor sound is present on any sleeved exhaust regardless of manifold Y piece combo on these cars you have no silencer so not surprising scratchchin its never going to sound good there is way too much pipe after the manifolds unlike V8 GT40 or De Tomaso Pantera for example in straight piped formats (both short ex systems) not sure why TVR owners bother TBH

A rusty old 90s Range Rover used to burble through my village some years ago, it was one of the nicest sounding V8 engines ive heard.
Looked like it had a set of old school cherry bombs in the system but never managed to flag them down to ask!
