I have been all over the Eastern US and am thinking of taking an extended holiday in January. Considering California. Any places I should definately visit and what should I avoid?

"Do" San Fran, San Diego, the PCH, 17 mile drive, Vegas, all of those places....But don't worry about spending too much time in LA.
Had 3 weeks there last year, and loved it.

for myself, i only wish to see things that are both non-motoring related, but still only a few degrees removed from motoring related subject matter here. just like in a real pub.

indeed, when i cast my mind back i cant think of a single instance when i have ever heard laughter in a pub. and thats exactly why i frequent such establishments. if i wanted non motoring related 'chat' or frivolity i would look to one of the many excellent satirists on BBC radio 3 or possible the home service. those guys crack me up.
