No contest in my opinion. Refitting the front grill. 1996 pre facelift. Oh. My. God.

Front indicator fell inboard. Again. So popped the grill out to do the glue job. Again. Removing the grill is a bit like moving house, or I imagine like giving birth. It is only the passage of time that dulls the memory of how awful it is going to be to refit. 2 hrs later, chipped paint and hands, and I’m thinking if that indicator drops in again it can stay there.

Is there a worse ‘job’? I’m talking relatively minor maintenance here, not body off or engine out…

My first Chimera in 2000 had that grill but I haven't had to grapple with one since.

My vote would be for the door mirrors. A complete pain having to remove the door card and de-pin the connectors to get them off in an attempt to fix them with their chocolate internals. frown Had to do it on 2 x Chimaeras.

Present Griff has the same mirrors but they are ok, at the moment.....

Try changing the handbrake cable on your own. I did & there is a vid on youtube of me doing it. Over a days work on your own.

Fitting the mk1 grill is a piece of pi$$ compared to removing the heater blower motor
Tracking down 'Not starting today' faults is a royal pain in the butt (distibutor pick-up intermittant failure in my case)
Fitting headlight bulbs requires triple jointed wrists on cars without the access panel in the wheelarch

Taking a PS rack out of a Chim without smacking hell out of the chassis is a right pain in the arse.

Most painful mistake I made was to somehow put one exhaust manifold gasket on the wrong way round and tighten it all up to hear it chuffing like a good un!
Undoing o/s manifold bolts is nigh on impossible to me without also removing starter motor… so that had to come off to fix it.
It made it sound all the sweeter when it was reet though biggrin

I’m really enjoying hearing about all this pain.
What a great thread and by the end of the day less savvy owners will know which jobs they should let their TVR mechanic can do and leave well alone. Haha

Engine mounts… that takes a bit of thinking biggrin

Unfortunately i don't have the Chimaera now, but the worst job ever when i did have it, is the brake servo / master cylinder and pedal box...........Absolute

nightmare.

Oh and dropping the diff on your own with the car on axle stands. You have to take the full weight of the diff, turn it thru 180 degrees to drop it out between

the chassis. Trying to crawl out from under the car lying flat on your back, with the diff on your chest.........OMG.

Putting it back was even worse.....but i have had enough of a moan already !

I agree. But will add asking the wife to help. Yap Yap Yap how long, its heavy, dirty etc.
Found it far better to put beer in the fridge in the garage & have an open invite while the girls went shopping.
