MK1 1.8 blue smoke oh oh what do you think cause is?

Hey,

So as of the last week or so I've been getting blue smoke and quite a bit on acceleration according to a friend who's been following me and a strong burning oil smell which I'm aware of because it is seriously burning oil. We did a compression test the other night and results are below. Now a couple of months a go unknowingly to me i did overheat it twice due to faulty temp sensor and not knowing the temp, i had a leak and the second time the rad had cracked underneath. Now replaced that with a new alloy rad and fixed the temp gauge. But if it was head gasket wouldn't it be white smoke? I'm hoping it's not the rings, if it is guessing it's better just looking at getting a new engine at that stage?

Dry

Cyl 1 165

Wet

cyl 1- 168

cyl 2- 180

3 and 4 were also around 180 mark

Edit: cylinder 2 spark plug was soaked in oil when we pulled it out also

I would say compression looks ok, difficult to guess at but valve stem seals may be the favourite. How does the temperature behave when the engine is running?

Temps are all good the normal really doesn't go up or down when up to temp.

Valve stem oil seals.

Compression looks fine, its even-ish and they are very low compression anyway.

You could get a cylinder head very cheaply and do a skim, valve job and and rebuild with new seals, and drop it in over a weekend if your looking at DIYing it.
