I'm getting an odd pain when kneeling on a hard surface that I never used to get, but only on my right knee.

Any thoughts on what it causing this and how I might cure it?

What type of pain?

As if you are kneeling on a small stone? As though your kneecap is bruised? Does it happen every time you kneel?

It happens almost every time I kneel on the lower part of my right kneecap, I get a feeling a bit like a strong painful electric shock on the outer part of my knee.

If you are describing the pain as electric, that may suggest nerve problems.

I have a herniated disc and when it was bad, it felt like 240v down both my legs. Two years later, it's down to 6v.

Perhaps it's time to visit your GP.

Is it like kneeling on a drawing pin?

I had exactly that in one knee, came out of nowhere. Took seemingly ages to go away.

It was housemaids knee apparently. Something all the hard men get hehe

I had exactly the same earlier this year, took about 6 weeks to clear up!

Kneeling on the driveway while reattaching my exhaust heat shield (and then checking in over the a couple of days) was the cause!

Bursitis?

Out of no where I had bursitis, ended up with swelling below the knee cap off to one side.

Slight discomfort when walking but kneeling was unbearable.

Slowly getting back to normal.

I had pain in one knee after kneeling doing some plumbing in the airing cupboard for a few hours. Just brushing the knee gently on the bed the wrong way was quite painful. It took weeks to go away and for something approaching a year afterwards I felt like I had a small patch of numbness. I own knee pads now.

I used to get this from time to time, always assumed it was some debris floating around that found it’s way to the kneecap

Kneel on something soft.
Saves a lot of pain in the long run.
