2008 MX5 Check Engine Light problem

Just got home after a 5 minute drive and this light came on, but only after switching off the ignition. Switching on the ignition, with or without the engine running, extinguishes the light. So, ignition off and locked, the warning light is now blinking away constantly.

Any ideas?

A bit of delving reveals that I may have caused this error message by accidentally starting the engine in gear (Lord knows why, as after over 10 years of owning cars which insist upon it, I always depress the clutch before starting- except on this one occasion!)

I've done the recommended ignition on/off, and disconnected the battery, to no avail.

Any ideas?

Strange that but maybe try plugging in a code reader to see what it says.

Strangely, I was just trying to find the OBD port an hour ago - it's well hidden! It was only after reading the manual last week that I found that there was an internal boot release!
