320d airbag deactivation 2002MY
Discussion
Once you have filled out all the forms in triplicate signed in blood and named your fore fathers back five generations, the dealer can then pass on this info with the vehicle details to BMW UK who will then release coding data [valid for a couple of weeks only]
The dash trims are removed to access the airbag wiring to disconnect it, and side airbag if ness.
Then the airbag control unit can be recoded with the new data to stop the light coming on.
then slap warning stickers all over the B-post.
A similar convoluted procedure has to be done to get a re-activation code, it takes a while to do.
Personally I have always put my kids in the back.

in some cases you also need a new seatbelt due to pre-tensioners etc being connected to the airbag. This is what was originally thought with out M Roadster and we were quoted £200 ish, however it wasn't the case when they came to do it and they actaully charges about £60. (Most of this was for the 2 dozen stickers they stuck all over the car warning that the airbag was off!!)
