I've looked at a couple of these and note that they went to 6-speeders in early 2003. Really would like the six speed car but there aren't many around at the right price so looking at slightly earlier 5-speed cars. Can anyone tell me the gearing in top for both? and has anyone driven both and can advise whether it is worth holding out for a 6?
Thanks in advance,
Adam

I haven't driven a 6 speeder, but I have a 2000 5 speeder and the gearing is really long! I don't know about revs in top, but what I can tell you is that 1st gear is an actually gear you can change into whilst rolling. 5th gear at 50mph results in very low revs indeed.

The 5 speeder is 25.4 mph/1000rpm in top but I still can't find out what the 6 speed does. Seems that none of the mags have tested the later car - maybe a call to the dealer is required.

I had a 5 speed 330ci and never found it over revving... 6th I'm guessing is just an over drive gear to get better mpg.
In 4th you can get 120mph so don't think it is at all an issue cruising at 70 in 5th.
