Afternoon,

The better half's car is due a set of brakes - its a 2011 520d.

As we know, its not the quickest of cars and only used for commuting.

Standard fit are 2-piece brake discs, however single piece discs are available at about half the price.

Would there be any detriment to just fitting single piece discs given the brakes don't see any tough love?

Cheers!

No fine

My neighbour has an F10 520D and just fitted Apec brake discs and Textar pads:

Discs: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235463614601?fits=Car+M...

Pads: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304935587148?fits=Car+M...

Textar discs are £165 in comparison (OE)! It's quite a price difference...

He's had no issues and out a few thousand of miles on them in the last few months...

One positive of the two-piece discs is that the hub part won't rust. I have had coated/painted one-piece discs that have.

Very true; the OEM/OE discs rarely corrode

However a light spray of HT paint soon has them sorted; used to do that on brake discs for my E39s before I fitted ATE Powerdiscs and never any issues

Thanks for the comments, single piece it is.

Went for Zimmermann £214 for front and rears - 2 piece would have been £362.

Which is good, because the car will also needs tyres in a few months!

That'll do it.. Zimmerman will corrode so deffo give the disc hats a quick spray

Did you look at ATE/Textar/Jurid/TRW discs on Autodoc at all; they'll all have 2 piece etc

Yeah, thats where I ordered from - they had cheaper brands, but dont fancy going too cheap - middle of the road for me.

Zimmermann ones I ordered show as being coated, but will give them a quick hit for good measure.

Yeah I wouldn't touch the likes of Ridex etc; but ATE/TRW/Jurid/Textar are all OEM and generally, well priced. But they have been all over the show lately. Sometimes OEM BMW was the same price via BMW eBay or one of the dealers, as Autodocs pricing!
