Rear bearing carrier 272m disc
Discussion
Hi can anyone help with a supply source for a preferably new rear wheel bearing carrier for a 500 please. I understand it's a cosworth carrier but I can't find a supplier for these either. I fitted a new bearing but still had play. Took it all apart again and noticed the bearing is loose in the carrier. Thank you.
Take the bearing out & measure accurately the inside dia of the carrier. All the way round to make sure it is round & to spec. Check that bearing for size against the spec for that bearing. Unusual for the cast carrier to be out of size unless a bearing was seized & spun in it. Cannot help with the carrier origins. I thought they were frrom Sierra.

Hi thank you for your comments. I had seen in the forums negative comments about B&B bearings but I purchased these from powersperformance as a kit without knowing the brand. I bought from them as I trusted them. I did take on board the doubt and have since purchased a set of timken bearings. Removed the old (new) bearing, cleaned all the grease off and put the outer part of the bearing back in and it rattles around. I have also done the same with the new unfitted Timken bearing outer part and it is the same. I definitely need a new carrier.
I have seen advertised anodised aluminum bearing carriers but all out of stock now. The TVR people don't seem to be advertising them either. This carrier is for the bigger disc on the 500 and Griffith I believe.
Can anyone help?

Im not sure on sizes but somewhere like here may have some, i would be careful which brand you buy from the factors if you go that way.

Without some measurements it's not clear if those are for the solid or bigger diameter vented discs ?https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/256126320867?_ul=GB&...
I'd be most surprised if any Motor Factor had one

Contact a Cosworth breaker thats where mine come from and I put quite a few people onto them when they upgraded from 253mm to 273mm rear brakes all where good but s/hand obviously this was however over ten years ago so supplies may of dried up , Julian Godfrey Engineering https://racetuners.com/ do an upgraded carrier with a bigger bearing (FWD Renault Trafic IIRC) thats far more heavy duty because spares demand is high this system is used on many competition cars even to this day . try these https://www.rscosworthbreakers.co.uk/ explain what your after , I have heard of two people having issues with those light-weight ally bearing carriers similar to what your going through now

Thank you I will follow up on your suggestions. I have owned the car from new. Going back through the file I see that the wheel bearing was changed 2003 by TVR in Blackpool at 48k miles. It now done 85k but was off the road from 2007 to 2023 due to rotten chassis and no time/funds to fix. When I first diagnosed play in the bearing in 2023 just before it's mot the bearing was not seized or noisey just had play.

Looking forward to hearing your solution. I have a similar issue with my rear os bearing carrier. Just had anther bearing fitted and was told the carrier was not true, likely due to a previous bearing spinning...Being in NZ getting second hand parts ain't easy....
