Just booked my sons driving test, earliest date was 5 months away in October. Utterly ridiculous.

So which apps have people had success with for getting cancelations? Any tips please?

Another vote for this one. Used for both of my children and threw up tests at the desired test station regularly. Booked one for my daughter for 3 days ahead, much to her shock and then angst as she had one booked months ahead and was nervous about that! Although she then passed first time.

Daughter used Driving test cancellations now, as this auto re-books unlike Testi. Failed 1st time on 5th April and got re test on 20th and passed.

Thanks but that link is for cancelling a test, whereas I want to be able to obtain an earlier test that someone else has cancelled.

Well what. brilliant app this is, thanks for the suggestion.

My sons test was originally booked for October, but I paid for this app (£20) and set my preferred dates within July and August and for them to automatically change the test date if a cancellation came up. Within just a few days they have automatically rebooked my sons test to a date in August.
I've now reset the parameters to try and get one in July which would be even more preferable.

For anyone else wanting to download this app, I suggest going onto their website first and filling in some of the settings, but dont pay initially, they then send you a text/emaill with a 20% discount code to entice you to join up. Well worth the fee.

Also may be worth asking your driving instructor - ours had a heads up on cancellations that were being processed from the 2 or 3 testing stations that were located reasonably nearby so daughter was able to be ready to book an earlier test when they were released (this was in the near immediate aftermath of covid when the test stations were still struggling so may have been a sign of the times and not still the case)

Book a test online
You’ll be put in a queue when you start booking your driving test - you’ll be told how long you’ll need to wait once you begin. This is faster than booking by phone because the phone lines are very busy at the moment.

You can book a test up to 24 weeks in the future. There is no waiting list or cancellation list.
The OP specifically wants to be able to jump at the opportunity if a date frees up quicker than the website offers.

Yes, perhaps you can trawl hopefully through the website, should you be looking when a cancellation comes up - before someone else or one of the app bots snaps it up.

Or you can register and let the app do the hard work and let you know when it’s found one meeting your requirements.

But carry on doing it the hard way by all means.

Been struggling to get a cancellation date for a retest for ages now. My son failed his first driving test back in August so we rebooked it with DVSA but earliest available was March 2025!!

Whilst the app above was great for bringing his first test date forward, we aren't having any success with bringing his 2nd test forward despite the date range set for anytime up to 31st Dec 2024. Had a few notifications for tests in February 25 but that's not much help. In the meantime its costing a fortune to continue his driving lessons.

Tempting to cut back on the lessons but if he suddenly gets a test next week he needs to be in the best position for passing.

Can you take him out in Arnold Clark dual control cars? If hex a student and gets the totum discount card online it's around 9 quid an hour.

Also, lol at the folk above suggesting that they have much of a chance getting a recent cancellation using the site vs the bots and apps.

Not using an app wasted 6 months of waiting time for my partner.

Even with the apps a cancellation can go quicker than you can book it.

The driving test booking situation is worlds away from what it was when I did my tests in 2007.

You can change the date as many times as you like.
Every time a message comes through, just choose an earlier date. When we used it for my daughter, we had to change it three or four times, until we got one within a couple of weeks. Luck of the draw sometimes, but make sure you log the app on early in the morning. We got no end of dates about 8.30am

Sadly that's not the case, I think you get a maximum of 6 amendments. When trying to change it today on the DVSA website I got this message..

However at the exact same time as trying to change it, unbeknown to me the app had changed it to a date next month, so at least that is good news. But to change it again I'd have to phone DVSA

With my son failing his test I found it impossible to book another test, there just weren’t any dates available for my city. I’ve had to book for a different city and the only date available was end of May 2025.

I managed to get a weekend test so now I have set the cancellation app searching for a closer date and at my preferred test centre.

The driving test booking system is a joke. The saga continues…

Thankfully my son passed his test this week, 3rd time lucky, and this time with no minor faults.. Such a relief, I don't think I could have survived the ordeal of having to try and book another test.
