Sur-ron on Cycle To Work

Yep. Someone gave a similar response over on Biker Banter.
Wishful thinking as I suspected. I'd seen a post on here from 2020/21 where someone talked about their friend getting one on a CtW scheme & I also read a while back about Sur-ron (or a similar e-motorbike manufacturer) offering dummy cranks & pedals so that it qualified for some kind of financial assistance along the lines of the CtW scheme.
Both stories were clearly the product of the urban rumour mill it would seem.
Oh, well. That & the fact I couldn't leave it anywhere have shelved that idea!

If you do fancy an electric commuter bike. Seat make, or made an EV scooter called the MO, it made exactly zero impact on the UK bike scene. I think a lot of Seat dealers chose or were forced to stock at least one and with little or no market for them in the bike world and exactly nobody walking into a Seat dealership looking for a scooter, they're heavily discounted. The RRP is £5800, but you can buy a pre-reg, unridden one for about £2200, or a lightly used Demonstrator for less than £2k which is less than a new Sur-ron even if you could convince HMRC to give you the Tax off it. They're also much much lower on the 'a bit Council' scale.
A Sur-ron will always have a motor which far exceeds that legal for EAPCs, so it would not quality for C2W.
I don't doubt that perhaps a few shops/dealers have managed to push them through the schemes though, either because they are trusted to only sell qualifying bikes through it, or that they falsified the details of the bike sold. If you sell a Sur-ron but put down that it's an S-Works Levo then I guess nobody would ever know? Obviously HMRC would be quite quite angry if they ever found out.

They look interesting but I’m unable to get an online insurance quote for that model for some reason.I posted on Biker Banter about the Seat Mos a little while back. I've got a bike licence & all the gear but, despite the giveaway prices, still wouldn't want one. I reckon there'll be naff all after-sales support & a road legal Sur-ron is a better bet.
I know a guy who knows a guy who sells illegal ebikes in his (legit) ebike shop & am sure I could get one on Cycle-to-Work... even if it had to be slightly misdescribed on the paperwork! He sells derestricted & US spec bikes on the side & chips/dongles mainstream EU brands.
I'm currently workimg on the basis of:
1) another motorbike
2) a (legal) ebike
3) a folding bike to pop in the boot of the car
A bike for every occasion.
