My son who is 28 is looking at buying his first car and has his eye on a 14 plate Fiat 500L.It is a manual 1.4 petrol with about 56000 miles on it.It also has had a recent service but to what level i don't know.A )is it likely to be any good and B) Being a petrol i would be surprised if it has a DMF but would it have chain or belt driven camshaft and if the latter is that likely to be belt in oil?

The 1.4 FIRE engine should be a dry belt driven camshaft.

They're pretty solid engines, and have been around in one form or another for forty years, I like them.

1.4 Multiair? Note the multiair unit is very fussy about the oil used and having the multiair filters regularly replaced. If it fails I believe it is over £1K to fix.

Yep, just about to replace the 2nd one on my daughter’s car, a bit fiddly, but not expensive.
