Tubeless tyre gloop replacement
Discussion
I decided to replace the gloop in my tyres last night for the new season (Orange Alpine 29). Over 18 months since last done and the tyres have held air perfectly so I was just going to leave them.
But, jeez, what a mess when I took them off - the latex had congealed into large lumps/hardened puddles in the bottom of the tyres which was a bugger to remove. There was some watery stuff lying about as well which I presume was the residual 'carrier' for the latex.
Bit of a pain but I got them all cleaned out, re filled and seated. All good to go for Summer with a new headset, chain and cassette fitted so happy bunny here
...so, the moral is do not neglect your gloop!

Another thing to check - the valve and nut on the wheel. I had a puncture that wouldnt seal a few weeks ago....no problem'i thought i'll put a tube in it...wrong as couldnt remove the valve nut as had siezed on so couldnt get a tube in.
Call of shame was needed and then a hacksaw to remove the valve (valve has been on for over 3 years(

To me the worst thing about leaving them for too long is how the bead of the tyre bonds itself to the rim.
I've had sealant that has felt like it's super glued the tyre to the rim before, thumbs were burning like F after getting them off!
Exactly this, thumbs still sore today!I've had sealant that has felt like it's super glued the tyre to the rim before, thumbs were burning like F after getting them off!
