720s auto hand brake
Discussion
Looking at doing a track day in the 720s. One golden rule is obviously leave hand brake off when coming back in, how can this be done in the 720s? Pretty sure when the engine goes off the brake goes on? Yes leave the engine running is an option, but wondered if there is another option?

Probably the same as the 650:
With engine running, put your foot on the brake and open the door.
Hold handbrake button down (as if releasing handbrake) while switching off engine
Note though that once you close the door, the handbrake will apply the next time you open it.
I'd love to have been in the meeting when they thought that one up.With engine running, put your foot on the brake and open the door.
Hold handbrake button down (as if releasing handbrake) while switching off engine
Note though that once you close the door, the handbrake will apply the next time you open it.
"so, we can either allow a manual handbrake on/off operation using the button for 5 seconds after the ignition is turned off, OR how about..."
You'd be stuffed if you had a hand missing.

I dont recall having to have your foot on the brake in the 570s, just push the handbrake lever and switch off, its not all that complicated
TBH I tend to keep the footbrake pressed in this situation as I know the handbrake isn't on, but that sounds simple and sensible.
But what about the door opening bit - maybe that is a red herring?

It the handbrake isn't on, it gets applied when you open the door. Hence the need to open it before switching the engine off with handbrake button pressed. But what about the door opening bit - maybe that is a red herring?
Maybe holding the handbrake down while opening the door would work, but I've not tried it.
ETA : Just been out in my car and tried it. Sure enough : Just stop the car / turn the engine off as normal, but hold the handbrake button down as you open the door. Handbrake stays off.
Simple.

Just remember when you press the parking brake lever it puts the car in neutral so if not on a flat surface it will rolll as soon as you take your foot off the brake,,But what about the door opening bit - maybe that is a red herring?
