F82 M4 Windscreen Cover

NB. Thread title should be windscreen cover, not windscreen excess!
With the caveat that it's unlikely I'll actually buy an M4, I was playing with insurance quotes out of idle curiosity. I ran quotes for a G15 840i, an F32 440i and an F82 M4. The 840i was about £500, the 440i was about £600 and the M4 was about £1,100. In each case the premium stayed the same if I ticked the windscreen cover box, except in the case of the M4 where it added another £500! What's all that about? The only material difference seems to be the carbon roof on the M4. Would that make replacing a windscreen so much riskier that they have to charge an extra £500 to cover their backsides?

I know! I was wondering if it's an additional premium because they perceive it to be a riskier repair, but obviously you're not going to pay the full value of something to insure it, otherwise the car insurance element would have been £35k rather than £1,100.I think it's probably because windscreens now are more expensive, especially since more and more aftermarket screens are being kicked out or rejected due to the devices attached to them not working properly. Besides, a genuine/authentic/OE branded windscreen is the best available product. Why settle for anything less!
Windscreen fitting companies nominated by insurance companies are sometimes having to do the job twice as the screen they've fitted won't allow calibration of the ADAS/KAFAS etc., or that the customer has kicked off after taking a look at it.

Windscreen cover was no extra for the F32 440i which, I believe, would have exactly the same screen. The 840i was no extra for windscreen cover and that was a significantly more expensive car new than the F82 M4.
