OK, another PH challenge.

We are trying to locate a WWII RAF cap for Goodwood on Saturday (I know, nothing like advanced planning!!).

I've trawled ebay and there is one possible on there and I've done a couple of google searches but haven't managed to come up with a supplier.

Any suggestions chaps? Preferably in a fat head size!

Yell.com and search for military surplus.

One near to my old house in Peterborough was called 'second front' I think - they'd have stuff like that no probs - or know someone who would

Thanks maxf, the trouble is there are hundreds of military surplus stores around and the ones we've tried don't have WWII stuff. I've tried yelling for the one you mentioned but with no sucess.

We're in Bristol - we've tried the city centre fancy dress shops and sourced the uniform but are struggling on the cap at the mo.

Bugger. I'll have a think.

Got a DeLorean and flux capacitor handy?

I own one - but you're not having it. Sorry.

It's a family heirloom and was owned by a cousin of mine who was stationed in India just after the war.

Have you tried Gieves & Hawkes? They have a store in Old Bond Street in Bath, I believe. Tel: 01225 463839 I suspect it may be a bit pricey, unless they have any old stock they need to get rid of.
I'd lend you one, but I might need it next week (if I have enough petrol left to get to work!)

My one's forage cap - and the RAF badge is missing. Although the two brass buttons are still attached to the front.

I have a couple of WW2 RAF skull caps lying around somewhere.

But I don't know where....

They are probably up the attic at Mum's.

If I can find them, you are welcome to borrow them, but no promises, cos I might not be able to find them......

Cheers

Get your ass along to Marcruss on the Hotwells Road - they'll sort you out with what you need, buy or hire.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Yertis, we started at Marcruss and they don't have anything suitable which surprised me.

Driftwood - do you know the name of the place in Newquay - I could give them a ring? ----edited to say I've found them - Nequay Surplus - they don't have anything ----thanks for the thought though.

There is a place just behind the Colston Halls that the uniform came from, they've got caps but he can't get them on! It might be a case of having one of those to just carry at this rate!

That's odd - Marcruss used to do a full uniform hire service.

Officer or Airmen?

Do you want a Forge cap or SD Hat?

I have a few ideas, let me know.

Sorry Piglet....just phone the shop at Newquay to see if they had one, and the answer's no.
Strangely enough though, the guy said a woman had just phoned for the exact same thing....perhaps another fellow PH'er down here in Cornwall?

edited to add....dur, who didn't read Piglets earlier posting

How about SILVERMANS in East London?? They used to do the old style webbing and various bits of kit. Would be worth a try. Are you after the peaked cap or the 'flat' design worn at an angle with the two brass buttons on the front??

The "flat" design is the forage cap - usually worn by the non-officer ranks. Officers normally wore peaked caps.
