I was up at Park Lane BMW this morning ordering a new bike and had a look at the cars while I was there.

I thought the M4 convertible looked really nice, and they had one in with carbon seats and tan leather, which was a combination that worked well.

The price though; £99,000. I had no idea that a well-specced one cost so much.

Lovely car, but for me, not at that price.

The price of them has prevented me from getting one as well. I'm hoping that next year I can swap the F82 M4 for a used G82 M4 xDrive though all being well.

I don't who buys an M car new. I bought both my previous M5 and my current M4 cab a year old and they were both reasonably priced with a massive taken out of the new car price.

I think its well know than M cars drop like a bomb for the first 3-4 years , bought mine new, didn't pay anything like current prices as they are a bit nuts, would love to swap to the estate but just afford it

I think the current M3 or 4 is about the only model BMW make I'd be interested in at the moment. The regular 3 is boring, the 2 coupe hideous and the new 5 is so big it's visible from space. First time in ages they're just not on the radar.

The E46 M3 coupe was £44500 in 2001 before any options, which is £80k in today's money. The current M4 starts at £90k but I think there's far bigger savings to be had off list prices now than there was in 2001 and it's a hell of a lot more car, to the extent that it's arguably moved up a whole market segment compared to the E46.

I was looking at low milage used G80 M3s for 55-60k a few months back. If you can get over the looks it’s a great car. No way would I be buying new at £100k.

Yes and the current M4(or M3) is the modern day M5 really when you consider its size/weight now I reckon.

I just looked online at M8 convertibles for comparison.

For me that’s a better car for similar money.

I think you would be alone in that opinion

The depreciation would be so savage it could leave you in tears

How so? A bit bigger, nicer interior, and quite a lot more performance.

8 series has much smaller rear passenger space,a smaller boot capacity, the interiors are pretty much the same, and the 100hp advantage is blunted by the 100kg+ weight gain.

I had a 2017 (pre-GPF) F83 M4 Cab competition which got damaged in an accident, so I am currently in a new G-series M4 Comp xdrive (but coupe) as hire car.

Technically the new generation M4 is better with more electronic features and more brutal acceleration, but it’s bigger (at least feels much bigger) and frankly I feel it’s bit too clinical.
My old one had much better engine noise (perhaps because it was before GPF?) and somehow bit more fun to drive - at least for me…

I've started looking at the new M3 estate. The front end looks acceptable on it and seems like an interesting family car. I'm just watching the prices drop.

I really want to like the Touring, but the huge slabs of over the top carbon trim at the rear just look out of place. It's like they hired the person who did that awful Honda Civic Halfords Special to do the rear bumper. For whatever reason I don't find it quite as offensive on the saloon.

That is my worry as welI. I think that I'll definitely miss the DCT, and the smaller size/lower weight of my F82 if I do swap to the G82 in fairness. I'd still love one for sure though.

I don't think either the F8x or G8x M3/4s sound good to be honest, I don't think one is better than the other. I found the M4C Xdrive pretty good to drive but I didn't like the electric steering, and it definitely felt big. Very capable performance.

The auto is good, although not as engaging as DCT when on it and using the paddles, but better than DCT as an auto.

Ideally I want the styling of the F8x series, the performance of the G8x, but the noise of the E9x hehe
