Hi All.

I've recently bought an Legacy 3.0R Spec B estate with the 6 speed manual gearbox. It has good previous servicing and maintenance history and I note that the clutch, flywheel and associated ancillaries were replaced about 40k miles ago.

Unfortunately I think the clutch release bearing is a bit worn out. It makes a general light whining noise when driven and rattles a bit when the car is running stationary with my foot off the clutch but disappears with the clutch pedal pushed down. In other respects the clutch itself seems OK and I have no problem changing gear etc.

I've owned a fair few different cars and I reckon that having to replace the release bearing (and probably the clutch too while I'm about it) at only 40k miles since it was last done seems a bit low.

My first question is whether this is normal for these cars. If so, are there any upgraded clutch, flywheel and bearings etc available for these cars to prolong the replacement interval?

Many thanks in advance,

Paul.

Going very early if it is that , check for heat shields see if something else is loose , it's expensive doing a clutch , I can't remote diagnose but if it's only done 40 k ago I would be surprised if it's that , unless it's been abused which I doubt too

Thanks for your reply.

The car is going in for a service in about a week's time so I'll ask the mechanic to have a look. A 40k lifespan for a clutch bearing does seem a bit low - I wasn't sure if they were a common issue.

Think I had max of two clutches in over 180k.
