I’ve just purchased a brand-new MX5 Homura. Machine grey with cream leather interior (seats, dash, inside doors etc).

My detailer is collecting the car tomorrow to do the ceramic coating and interior protection. I asked him and he said he isn’t sure if it offers protection from the Sun/UV.

I’ve turned the car around on the drive so the Sun isn’t on the front of the car, I can’t fit it in the garage as the garage is full of stuff.

Any suggestions how I can protect the cream leather interior from going yellow over time in the Sun

Thanks

Are you sure it’s leather first of all, may sound weird but unless the original owner ticked the box it might be synthetic…

Some kind of sunshade if you're that protective of it.

I had 16 year old BMW 330i with cream leather. The leather required very little maintenance in 6 years of ownership..... So a light wipe down and then treated with Autoglym leather care balm. But probably only treated 3 times in that time.

Leather was still in great condition....

Stored outside in the sun all that time too.

Ooh that sounds promising them. Fingers crossed for low maintenance. Thanks for that
He’s detailing the car this week including the interior he thinks it will be low maintenance after that and anything will just wipe off easily. It was just the Sun that I was concerned about.

The only issue I had was sitting in the car with brand new ink blue jeans. The colour of the jeans did stain the seat slightly, but a wipe and then it seemed to fade over time.....

It'll be absolutely fine.

You can periodically add some protection in the form of something like Gtechniq L1 or Carpro Leather, which will make the leather easier to clean, especially dye transfer from jeans.

Cheers,

The best leather protect out there is LTT Leather, Ultra Leather Protect. Also, RE dye transfer. Never sit on light leather in band new unwashed colourful clothes, especially red (you will struggle to ever remove red dye transfer) LTT also sell dye transfer removal products. Clean little and often to keep your matt finish, as shiny leather (a 'patina') is essentially just buffed up (by your body) muck.

They also sell to the trade, so if you have a detailer then they will be eligible for trade discount.

Luckily I don’t wear denim. I have leather sofas so I know how much damage denim can do.

I sitting on a cream throw at the moment until the car is done 🤭 after that the detailer tells me everything will just wipe off

It was just the Sun I was concerned about, but if you’re saying it won’t be a problem, that’s great

There isn't a 'paint' (pigment is a type of) that can't be faded by the giant ball of gas in the sky. You can only use the best protector, keep it out of direct sun where possible, and keep the roof up to lesson the odds of fading.
