Petrol, cheap to run, room to sleep in and roof rack capabilities for a MTB.

Highest mpg possible, low tax. Realible.

What can you suggest?

We are also looking for a similar car, (SUV pref), but have up to £8k......

So far.

Yeti's, Qhascows, and the rest do under 40 mpg....Sportages, CX 5,..........

If you'd pack a tent instead, there's a lot more choice...

Going to keep away from wet belt cars.

Been looking at Renault captur or clips, seem to offer a lot.

Think just want a car with roof rack ability now .

I do like 208 GTi.

I’m into my car camping and have slept in my Mercedes Citan in Spain, Portugal and have done the NC500 in it. It’s as ugly as sin but perfect for trips and MTBing etc.

If you can cope with the looks how about a Leon estate? Think that’s what I’m having next.

I car camp in my Dacia Logan, room for two, loads of space for 1. Much bigger load area than cars the next size up. I have the 0.9 turbo petrol which is economical and sprightly enough. I went for a top spec Stepway, but there are plenty of lower spec cars in budget.

I'll be using it up in Galloway forest next week. Have boot canopy that is great if you are at a spot for a couple of nights.

One thing is the used car market is crazy 14 years old cars still expensive.

Yeah, what was a £2k 12yo is now a £7-8k car so a £5k car is really not much off shed territory.

Seen a 2014 fiesta 1 turbo. Ok heard these are horrible engines, but no tax and decent mpg
. Car is in good nick as well 5k. Worth it?

I have seen a Saab 93 1.9 D turbo for under 1k as another option.

EcoBoost has a wet cam belt, which is probably due this year? Very labour intensive job.

A roof tent (or just a regular tent) and a towbar mounted bike rack opens up a lot more option.

Petrol and high MPG sounds like misery to me.

A D5 equipped V70 would be far superior and would cover the all other criteria with ease. I'm 6'1" and I could sleep fully stretched out without touching either end. Load bay is flat too, I've had worse hotel beds.
