Whats your next car after your TVR going to be?
Discussion
As an upgrade after TVR I think an F40 may still be just a little out of reach, good on you though Ash if you do (You live round Beds way don't you? If so can't wait to see you out in one).
On a more realistic note for myself I think it'd be either a Corvette Z06 (strange choice I know) or if my circumstances really do get better then either a 355 or DB7.

Tough question that. Not been able to answer it since 1996...
IMHO TVRs are kind of at the peak of some sort of branch of car evolution. Nothing out-TVRs a TVR whereas Lambos out-Ferrari a Ferrari. If you know what I mean...
Nobody does visual/aural drama with beserk torque-to-weight like TVR. And nobody is likely to.

As Boss just said - you can't upgrade from a TVR - you have to go down another avenue.....
I think we've decided that we'll never sell the Cerb (so long as (G*d forbid) nothing awful happens health or money wise.....
But the next car in the garage will probably be a late 90's Aston Martin Vantage (550 supercharged ponies from Newport
)

Short term the bike and a seven type kit car will be replacing it. Bike for day to day and seven for track/hooning.
Long term I'd love a 250GTO or a 288GTO but realistically that's not going to happen I think.
Back to reality, I would love a 246GT or GTS
Not the fastest car in the world but I love the lines of it. I think this will be my long term plan for when I stop travelling for work.

Couldn't put it any better myself.
To be honest, I couldn't afford much more than a TVR at the moment. For some reason, I don't see a problem.

With sound being an important consideration, nothing could replace the cerb. The pops and bangs are the cherry on the powerhouse cake with classic looks, which Id like to eat forever.
Like olly says, you'd have to explore another avenue. And as Boss explained today, the cerb is a keeper.
I've always wanted a lambo, and if things go to plan wwith luck maybe I'll be able to buy one, one day. Wont be soon though
I also see myself in an aston possibly, when the knees are to creaky to daily TVR use. But it wouldnt be a replacement. My point being that for me personally, nothing could replace the cerb.
Speaking of exploring "other avenues" (sorry, I know this is an automotive forum) ... flying isnt as expensive as most make it out to be, you can have one of these babies for 40k ish

I used to think that running a TVR was my apprenticeship for running a Lambo. Both companies have a mercurial history with a strong maverick streak.
Two things happened:
- I ordered a Cerbera 4.5 in 1997 (when they referred to it as "Cerbera GT"
.
- Lamborghini got bought by VW in 1998.
Once I'd taken delivery of my Imperial Blue 4.5 in 1998 I felt I'd found nirvana. Seven years later, I've still got it and I still love it. Only a "more Cerbera" Cerbera could ever improve on it but even now, I can't bring myself to part with the 4.5 because it's such a fabulous car. I keep it because if the trade says it's worth "x", so it's possible to buy a car THIS GOOD for "x", then I'd buy it. So I've kept it.
The VW acquisition of Lambo... I think the Murcielago is a fabulous looking/sounding car but there's something about it that leaves me cold. I don't know what it is, it's almost as if it's TOO good and has lost the soul last spotted in a 6.0 Diablo. New Lambos don't look/feel like they are made by artisans anymore.
The Murc may be what Lambo always wished for but I think it's a lesson in "be careful what you wish for". A "perfect TVR" would probably suffer in the same way because with maverick cars, the imperfections are what make them perfect. Anyone who's read "Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance" will know what I mean I think.
"After TVR" cars are "as well as TVR" cars.

Quality & freedom. Individuality and character (emotion) against the conformism and sense (logic), even if the character isn't perfect (call it quirky).
Bit that sits in my mind was phrase "funeral procession", miserable people stuck in their metal prisons in traffic on their way to work - the opposite of the BNG drive yesterday
Back to the plot, a dancing donkey 348 or mad kitcar (500kgs, 300bhp) would do me, depending on mood at the time

Hiya Bosscerbera, I really agree with your comments particularly the above. My Cerbera was awesome and probably the best car I have ever owned!
I am keen to get another; however if I cannot find 'the right car' and so have to change to a non-TVR, I have had a look at a few DB7's that would be a possible alternative.
I've tried a:
Porsche 911. 997 is a lovely well built car that does everything with Germanic engineering quality/flare. Thats its big problem its boring and there is an awful stigma to owning one.
AM DB9 - poorly built and if you think a TVR has no boot space this can take a credit card in the boot at most! Sounds glorious handles like a barge. Very expensive for what it is.
F355 - My favourite car but a b****h to drive. Temted by a 50k one.
F360 - Not good looking enough and not worth 100k. Fast but a Cerb could wax its bottom.
Lambo - Lovely but a little too impractical
Maserati 3200GT - Gorgeous and I may buy one really soon to ADD to the Griff. I must be mad or like standing by the road side!
TVR - Good looking. As fast as the the others in the real world. Sooooo cheap to run. Nothing touches them really. Smile from ear to ear everytime I drive one. And you do drive them not the other way around!
