Just lately some evenings ive been hearing some strange noises outside where i live, the enviroment i live in is my house has fields to one side and allotments to the rear with high trees all around,,,now ime not taking the p1ss here but i can hear a noise that goes something like,in a high pitch, aweet, aweet, aweet, aweet, aweet,,,,, then it goes silent for a while and the noise is then repeated, this goes on for a while then stops altogether until another night, the sound has got a real tropical sound to it.

Listening to the radio this afternoon i heard that wild parrots in the country are on the increase and in kent there is even a colony of wild parrots??,any links here?

Ps,i have only had one glass of cider:)

Not of owls, though I do hear the same noise as you at night which isn't on that list of owls, but I'm fairly certain it's an owl making the sound. Maybe it's an owl mating call or something?

There's an A-Z on the left of that site if you want to check through all their sounds...

There's wild parrots all over London but especially in the west. Surprised you haven't seen them before. They generally fly in flocks and have long tails and their calls are quite distinctive.

Working in London as much as I do at the mo, I can't recall a week that I haven't seen any. Just last Thursday I saw a flock of about 40 birds fly low over the M25 just before Junction 14.

You could be right ive noticed a lot of owls lately just sitting in roads, yep you heard it right, they just sit in the middle of the road,i was once told an owl would not perch at ground level but as i drive nights its become a popular occurence to see them taking on traffic.

There are colonies of Ring-necked parakeets that live in the South East which are now considered a British wild species.

You would recognize the sound of these as it is a very loud squawk.
The sound you gave does sound like a wader though, perhaps something like a redshank.

This is what i heard on the radio and being around 30+ miles west of the M25 as the parrot flies i thought there might be a link?,stupid question time here for any bird lovers; why would a parrot want to hang around the UK with its milder temperatures,do they migrate, and if so why return to our climate?

The colony of ring-necks is totaly from escapees and they are not a migratory species. No need to migrate if you have all the food and nesting sites here. Cold doesn't bother birds too much as long as there's food.

I'm not an othni, orthnith, Fk it, sad git, but I DO know that different owls make different noises and only one of them screeches.

Is the noise at night (ie dark) or evening?

That convinces me it's a wader of some sort, they become more active in the evenings. It's the barn owl that screetches, you'd know it if you heard it.

Try lapwings or it's other name peewit. It's called a peewit because of the sound it makes, a good clue there reading your initial post.

Tried them groucho, the noises in the audios are different to the ones ime hearing,it sounds really unfamiliar and out of charachter to where i live,, ive never heard it before until recently,it did cross my mind it might be an animal although i think its unlikely, the sound is also magified as i find the squirrels around here get quite loud due to the back drop of the trees acting to amplify them.

Woodlands, well you could call it a copse within a town really, its made up of high evergreens backed up by a variety of trees if this enviroment gives some idea of bird type.
