What are the chances of being reported?

My alloys were in a serious state, so yesterday I gave them a good going over with wonder wheels in preperation for a sand and spray up. 3 hours later (they're BBS X spokes) theres a scale model of the Hudson river flowing down the street.

Walk in, switch the local news on... Hosepipe ban for the past week, with people in my town reporting others for breaking the ban :yikes:

Am I right in thinking the fine is a bag of sand?

Of course you do! Then if someone grasses you up, deny all knowledge, or request the picture!

They have footpaths reappearing for the first time in 50 years at the wierwood reservoir. Apparently it's only 30% full. The grass is beginning to grow, and it looks a bit like a puddle to me.

I don't think that the hosepipe ban is quite as you might imagine it. I think it's more about "free running hosepipes". If it has a valve on the end, I think it doesn't count.

You could of course use a bucket.

I have a feeling that the statistics about the ammount of water lost to the underground pipework, would seem staggering. That's why they don't publish them.

Essentially I think the hosepipe ban is a result of insufficient funds to fix the distribution network, and a dry winter.

I guess the money got spent on the hospitals instead.

Anecdotally, just around the corner from me, last year there was a spout of water coming out of the middle ofsomeones drive. This lasted about three months before anyone fixed it.

It's not like you could have missed it. I guess it was about 12" high.

i read somewhere, that ken livingstone wants a desalination plant for london, that'll pruduce something like 300,000 litres.

and the lost water from old pipes in london, which he wont let them repair/upgrade? about 900,000 litres per year

(private eye type thing i think)

I have a plan, if I get a summons, should I contest the fine so it has to go to court?

That way the grass will have to give evidence and won't show
(for some reason the neighbours think I'm a bit of a thug just cos I told one to off )

Even if he/she does show i'll see who it is

I'm washing the car, if you hear a chopper and the cops come knocking you ain't seen me roight?

It's certainly an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The level at Ardingly Reservoir is now falling rapidly.

There's a sprinkler and unattended hosepipe ban in force in this area, too. This is the first time South East Water has had to introduce any restrictions on water use since 1995.

If your supplier applies the same rules as Southern Water, you can still use a pressure washer. Without the power on, a pressure washer has many of the characteristics of a hosepipe

According to the mid kent site above,

" Q. Enforcementof the ban.

A. If we become aware of a hosepipe or sprinkler being used we will:

Firstly, send a standard letter informing the customer that we are aware and warning them that we will consider taking further action if this is repeated. It is an offence to use a sprinkler or unattended hose pipe when a ban is in place and therefore it may attract a fine of up to £1000. "

So the answer is........keep doing it till you get a letter then review your position!

Thats allright, untill you turn on your kitchen tap, and nothing comes out.

I wonder how many will complain about txation on water, when they have to buy evian to take a wash.

When the reservoir goes dry, the tap drys up. It's not rocket science.

If you pay by meter can they enforce a ban? You've paid for it, it's yours to use as you wish, surely? Be interesting to work out the contractual obligations. If they have sold you something, and you have paid for it, how can they then tell you what you can and cant do with it?
