AVIC-X1R installation

If anyone has installed the Pioneer AVIC-X1R (preferably in a Tamora/T350/Sagaris dash) can you help answer some questions?
[bullet]Is there room to put the 'Hide-away unit' in the dash? Or would a location under the dash in the passenger footwell be better?[/bullet][bullet]Will the cold air and subsequent condensation from the air con damage either the 'Dispaly unit', 'Hide-away unit' or wiring?[/bullet][bullet]is the DIN plug on the TVR used for the factory fit Pioneer units a direct fit to the AVIC?[/bullet][bullet]Is it ok to leave the 'GPS arial' in the dash? Of does this need to be mounted on the windscreen?[/bullet][bullet]How do i connect the 'Pink (CAR SPEAD SIGNLA INPUT)' as I've no idea where my Tamoras speed detection circuit is located? Or doe TVRs require a speed pulse generator?[/bullet][bullet]Where do I find the handbrake power supply to connect the 'Light green' so the AVIC can detect the ON/OFF status of the handbrake?[/bullet][bullet]Where do I find the lead whose voltage changes with the reverse gear is engaged for the AVIC's reverse signal input?[/bullet][bullet]Is the holder suppliled with the AVIC the same as used with the existing Pioneer unit?[/bullet]

Put the hideaway unit under the dash in the passengers side.
The unit should be fine with the cold air and aircon so now worries there.
The ISO connector is a straight plug in. No adaption needed.
Personally I'd put the GPS ariel as far up inside the dash as you can. It'll still work as long as its at the top of the dash. Other people will rather have it on the windscreen
The speed wire! I'm clueless on these cars. You'd need to test them all to find it and that aint going to be easy.
Unless you want to be only watching your TV when the cars parked or operate it when parked don't fit the handbrake wire as its a pain in the ass if someone in the car wants to watch something and it wont let you! The SAT NAV will still work though.
The reverse wire is a little harder to find you'll need to test all the wires to find out which one. But again its really only any use if your using the revering camera and if you need that on your Tiv I don't how you passed you test! Lol
From memory the holder/cradle is slightly different so take the old one out. It only takes a few seconds.
I fitted mine in a Tuscan so may be a bit different
but I fitted the hideaway unit under the passenger
seat on a thin layer of foam. This unit must be fitted
flat and facing in the right direction(arrows on unit)
I fitted the foam as the unit is sensative to vibration
as it contains an electronic gyroscope to help with
directional navigation and any vibration will harm
the accuracy of the unit.The reverse wire is not just
for switching the rearview camera it also tells the
unit you have altered course quicker than waiting
for the GPS to realise.I also find that fitting a
rearview camera with infrared night vision is great
for reversing in total darkness. I took a wire from
the reversing light for this connection, doesn't
matter if pos or neg wire as this is switchable in
the X1 menu.The handbrake wire you can just connect
to earth and the DVD will work all the time but as it
is illegal to view when moving I always close the screen when playing music DVD's etc.On the Tuscan I
found the speed pulse wire under the centre console
attached to both door modules. The modules use this
wire to know the car is moving and lock the doors.
The wire on the Tuscans is pink in colour so try the
X1 in set up mode and touch the wire onto the pink wire
and move the car forward and the speed should come up
on the X1 screen and a noise that rises with your speed. I would also suggest putting the GPS aerial
in the front or rear window with a clear view of the
sky as this will improve accuracy especialy in built
up areas. If you dont have it already I would recommend
the voice activation kit from which you can control
navigation(ie just say "return home"
CD autochanger and
DAB and Ipod if fitted. The voice recognition pack is
only £30 so well worth it,the reason I mention it now
is that it plugs into the back of the in dash unit so
better to fit it at time of installation.

Yes, they do, I too nearly bought that for my X-1. I didn't have to in the end, the car audio proffs who fitted my Avic X1 said that the Car's own speed pulse generator was fine, and it is, works great!

Does anyone happen to know where I can find the speed pulse signal lead? Will it be the same as the Tuscan and linked to the doors? What colour is it?

Mine was around £150, including my RA2 hard wired too, fitted, checked and explained to me.
